We are working at getting this cubit set up, but wanted to at least start a discussion forum for Western Washington. Spring is coming! What signs of spring have you noticed in your bird watching? We have a resident Barred Owl pair, and at least one of them has just started calling over the last week. It is always fun to hear their song, although the dogs aren't really fond of it....

Saw quite a few robins in the veggie garden area down the hill from us. Had heard a few before, but this is the first time I have seen several at once.

We have been seeing a flock of swans in the Southern part of the Auburn Valley near some of the daffodil fields. This has been happening over the last couple of weeks and the numbers are diminishing now that they are working the fields. Haven't been able to get close enough to I D what kind, but this is the first year we have noticed them here in the 10 or so years we have been communting in this area.

I heard (but didn't see) the varied thrush yesterday for the first time. I love them, but cringe when I hear that first loud long note, because I know that it means an end to any possibility of sleeping in on the weekends until they are gone!
