For those of you who don't know, Aunt Bett was my mother's aunt. With great patience she taught me all about the plants that grew in the Appalachian mountains of southeast Kentucky. We wandered all over those mountains, Aunt Bett and I. I like to think she enjoyed it as much as I did.

This was certainly another entertaining, and informative, story. I can just imagine you sitting under the apple tree, your mind already wondering about mysteries around you as you read Nancy Drew, and then a ghost voice speaks up from out of nowhere. I think you have mentioned before about your aim, and it seems you could even aim for sounds without seeing your target. Too bad the neighbor had to find out the hard way, though. Maybe this helped to convince your relatives you needed a vocation to keep you occupied, and so off you went with Aunt Bett later on.
I do hope to read more of these stories.

Christine!!!
Thank you. I did have a lot of 'adventures', and thankfully it's the isolated incidents that I remember. Somebody asked me if I ever stopped long enough to sleep. Truth is, sometimes I fell asleep in that clover patch. It's just fun to take you along with me. Good memories help us get through tough times, don't you think?

Good about the footnotes!

Hope you are having a warm sunshiny day over there.

Wonderful story, Sharon!
You know how I feel about Nancy Drew! I must say, see her image with the magnifying glass bought back multitude senses...including smell. (the Clearasil on my face !!) Rolling on the floor laughing

I can't pass a good clover patch without sitting in the middle and knotting a long, long clover chain!
Thanks!

Ha about the Clearasil.
Seems I remember Noxema.

And I taught my grandson to make clover chains just last summer.
Thanks Susie!

Another fun story, thanks, Sharon. That's funny that the boy was talking to the dog...poor kid, lol.
I didn't know clover was related to peas! I always learn something good from you!

I'm just full of totally useless information.
And I love to pass it around... Smiling

Not useless information at all. It is very good to know which plants are legumes and can enhance the nitrogen in the soil. I would consider many other types of trivia to be more useless, such as most of Jeopardy. It can be fun, but it does not always help with anything.

Maybe the teacher in me still likes to teach things but only in an unteacherly way.

I know about Red Clover tea, because I drink it often! I wish I'd had someone like Aunt Bett to follow around when I was a child. If I had known then what I know now, you know? Enjoyed the story!

Even so, I realize now I didn't learn nearly as much as I should have. Hindsight, I think.
Thanks Linda!

Poor Tommy! I can just imagine that rain of apples flying out of your hands!

Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys were fascinating books for children. They really pulled you into the story and made you feel like you were helping to solve the mystery. I still love Nancy Drew, only I play the PC mystery games and have all but the latest (26th) game.

Clover brings back memories of the good old days.

Yes these wonderful stories do bring back a lot of memories. I never get tired of your Aunt Bett stories. I am always looking for another one.

Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, Perry Mason...I was rarely without one of them. Tony Hillerman was another good series later on. Now it is Ann Rule and J.A. Jance.
