Just able to get on line and read this and I am smiling from ear to ear. Dandelions are so much fun. Eating them as a kid and than blowing the blooms of the ones that were left and the blooms spent, sending wishes in the wind as we blew the dried seeds of the stems. Always wondering when a child if those dreams and wishes would come true.
It is also so lovely to find somebody else that has a passion for Ditchlillies. yes, I have collections of hybridized ones and some heirlooms from those old master hybridizers that are no longer with us, but I too love my Ditchlillies. I always have some of them growing and wonder how anybody can not like them.
So true, not only one of the toughest plants around through extreme flooding, heat and droughts, but good eating also. I didn't realize they had that much nutritional properties til your article. I just knew they tasted pretty good in a salad or in a bowl a vinegar.
We are so used to so many things being classed as a flower for eye candy alone, it very hard to get folks to open up the mouth and try that first bite. Even I hesitated the first time. Had me a big cup of coffee standing by in case it tasted nasty. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised.
Once you get used to them, it nice to go around the garden and try different buds and blooms. Some, I have discovered, have a more peppery flavor to them than others. So far I haven't found one I really didn't like.
