I watched this movie today and I really enjoyed it. It somewhat reminded me of Driving Miss Daisy, another great one. There is some foul language but it is not filled with it.

From NetFlix (and no I am not getting a kick back from them, maybe I should though I seem to mention them alot!)

Quoting:
Guarding Tess(1994) PG-13

Shirley MacLaine is Tess Carlisle, a widowed first lady (half Nancy Reagan, half Bess Truman) living quietly in Ohio. Nicolas Cage is Doug Chesnic, the Secret Service agent assigned to protect her. He longs for action but feels like a heavily armed butler. He wants out, but Tess won't let him go. MacLaine and Cage clash to comic perfection.

Genre:
Political Comedies

This movie is:
Witty, Understated, Feel-good, Sentimental

I have a hard time watching anything with Nicolas Cage!

I remember that, back when Nicholas Cage was normal. He's gotten so weird I can't watch him any more. Guarding Tess was a good movie.

I need to think about signlng up for netflix, but we almost always see the first runs in the theatre.

Meezers, one of the things I like most about NetFlix is the watch instantly. My DH bought me the little box (one time charge) so you can watch them on your TV rather than on your computer. I have watched so many older shows and movies along with catching up on missed episodes of shows I started watching after their first season. I didn't start watching Law and Order SVU until the 9th season. I watched all of the prior seasons on the NF W.I. I love watching them in order rather than mixed up reruns on TV.

Most of the reruns are done in order, if you watch them on the same channel. The problem is that Law and Order is showing everywhere at all kinds of times and days!! So it's easy to get misdirected.

lol yes, this is very true. Also, to start from the first episode, you have to catch the cycle just right.

I like N Cage too but the runaway character was Chance the gardener.
Soooooo droll and darkly funny I really miss Peter Sellers at his best, not all his films were funny.

There is another good Nic Cage movie called Knowing that was very good (I didn't expect to like it)

One of my favorite movies is an early Nic Cage/ Sean Penn movie called Racing with the Moon.

Then of course there's Valley Girl! Whistling one of my secret favorites.

'Being There' was the movie with Chance the Gardener. My favorite Peter Sellers movie. I liked it much better because the comedy was not so in-your-face.

Susan, I never saw any of those movies you mentioned, I can't believe it! I'll have to look for them.

One of the funniest Nic Cage movies has to be 'Raising Arizona'. Rolling on the floor laughing

He was also pretty good in 'Kickass', which was funny, if you can get past the really bad language.

I think "Being There" was the best movie ever with bots Shirly and Peter.
I LOVE smug low dark humour.
I'm going to rent it again

I guess I dragged us off topic a bit but I never said what made me post in the first place, Guarding Tess is a great movie, Shirley MacClaine is brilliant, I've seen it a couple of times and could watch it again.
