I have come to the conclusion that I don't want to be defined by sentamentality.
What are your secrets to re-defining life as we get retired?
All suggestions are welcome.

learn to do all the things you always wanted to do but did not have the time. Adapt a "just do it" attitude. And at my age I should not be intimidated by anything or anyone. PP used to say I am old enough to do what I want, go where I want say what I want and if anyone has a problem with that, it's their problem not mine. I have earned that right. He was about 70 when he started saying that. Well I am 70 now and I think I agree with him.lol but that attitude will not fly until you are at least that old. lol

You look about 60 and that smile is just beautiful.
PP was right. I wish I could have afforded to come see ya'll and do some pipeline reminiscing with him.
I am going to make a list.
Not a Bucket List, but a 'pre-bucket' list.

I'm just easing into this new stage of life. Someone asked me what I was going to do when I retired and I responded... "nothing, very slowly". I mean, really, 40+ years of working... why do I have to plan to do anything. I want to be in my garden, make quilts, see some flicks and have margaritas w/ my friends and be a news junkie and a political pundit.

Susie, it's too bad we live so far apart.
That's my list too.

Back to this letting go thread.
My DM passed away 7 years ago June 1st.
I kept about half of her stuff.
Well now the clothes are getting too small and out of style.
And a brand new pair of those control top hose I had been saving for way too many years became lifeless and sticky.

Go ahead and cut out the things you like and toss the rest. I too had several boxes of magazines.
I kept the expensive quilt and decorating magizines and cut what I liked out of the rest.
And I remind myself that almost everything is on this internet anymore.
Thanks ya'll for coming by.

Back to letting go, I assume it means some one passed on? or a word every one seems to avoid, "death", I like to think about death as the same as being born, the process is the same. with a baby, he (or she) just doesn't want to come out, they fight to stay in the womb, the mom has to push and struggle to bring it into his new life. With death, we don't want to go, we fight and struggle to stay here, we get frightened just as I am certain a new born is frightened at birth, but it's my belief that with death comes a new life, if it's in heaven or rebirth on earth is up to your beliefs, but death is not the end, it's a beginning.

Jim you said that so well.
Letting go can cover so much for us BBs.
My letting go issues are;
The death of my DM in 03 and DXH in 07... that's almost recovered from.
Then there's a certain amount of "things with potential" that need to be thined out.
Magazines and Books that cover intrest I don't have anymore.
Clothes that are no longer appropriate, mini skirts, any pant that doesn't cover my knees.
People that I can't help.
People that I can't emotionaly afford.
Thanks for posting here.

Well said, Jim!!

My answer to letting go is to keep busy....I do a lot of volunter work...church, a National Park...now I, with the help of 3 more gals, are starting a drive to buy a Christmas Wreath for every one buried at our Veteran's Cemetery...it's a big undertaking, but with God'shelp, I think we will succed. I also like to keep in mind a Card I read in a gift shop, I forget who wrote it, but it went something like this, Like a bird freed from it's cage flies quickly up-ward, so a soul freed from the body flies up to God and begins a new life.

"Praise God, I'll have a new body. Praise God, I'll have a new life!" Love that song. It is all in how you look at death. If I thought I would turn into something like a cow the next time around it wouldn't be too much to look forward to but I look forward to heaven. I don't believe in a next time around. Once is more than plenty for me. I don't want to polish the pearly gates but I would love to have my own little garden by the river of life, the lion lying down by the lamb and bunches of butterrlies and beautiful birds singing beautiful songs. That is my idea of a beautiful heaven. Anything that God gives us will be just wonderful for me.
