Dupuytrens Contractures is a hand deformity that usually develops slowly over years. It causes the connective tissue in your palms to knot up and pull your fingers (usually the ring and pinkie fingers) up into the palm. When this happens it can make things extremely difficult. One can not put their hand into a glove, a coat pocket or do household essentials. It is most common in men of Northern European descent.

During my 13 years as a nurse I only saw this once.

I agree. What else do you want to know about the disease?

Dorothy, you are so kind. Since posting that query in May I have consulted with 3 hand surgeons and a Radiologist ... I think I have a handle on it now....but the thought of losing (effectively....) my hand and/or surgery really sent me into a tail spin!!!! All suggested to wait until contractures set in....seems like it is NOT always a given that they will.. So I have Plan A and Plan B in place!!! Lovey dubby
