Fields are full of yellow popweed too. I like driving through them on the golfcart - you can hear them all pop under the tires :o)

The gaillardas are in full bloom too - various patches of them throughout the fields.

The bluebonnets aren't as abundant as in previous years - but it seems they are making a comeback.

Yeah! I'm a Charley's girl!
Those white flowers (Western Daisies?) make for some gorgeous combinations Cat!!
Your blue curls are much prettier than our Scorpionweed, also a Phacelia, but they are very early blooming and several butterfly species do love them. Smiling

I've read where they call the Blue Curls - Scorpionweed - have seen different scientific names for the same plant in my wildflower books too.

For some odd reason the Blue Curls are growing along the fences and not out in the open very often. Wondering if birds eat the seeds as well and poop them out :o)

Yeah, it's nice to putter around the back fields - some areas a predominately yellow, others white and yet others red.

The native bee balm hasn't made an appearance yet...and haven't seen very many milkweeds either. Seems when I'm wanting to harvest seeds I can't find them!

Also I found several patches of what I think is some type of dalea. It's different looking from the dalea aurea I saw in another area - these blooms seem a darker yellow.

Oh and there are snakes in the grass :o) So far I haven't seen a rattler this year but it's only a matter of time.

The indigo snakes are big out here - they are known to eat rattlers. We have several indigos that I see in different areas of the ranch :o)

Yep, our Scorpionweed has a bunch of common names too but it is a different one than yours, the most common one we have is Phacelia crenulata with purple flowers. There were hundreds of them in the untended park last year with lots of butterflies all over them. Mostly Painted Ladies but there were a few others including a Swallowtail or two. Around last May the city hired a very nice young man to tend the park. I watched in utter disappointment as he sprayed all the 'weeds' this year. The park is right across from my home & happily some of those 'weed' seeds blew into my yard & I have a large patch of them growing with a couple of blooms just starting.

I couldn't sleep last night with all my plans for an extended butterfly garden. I saw where you are ordering another 50 of the Milkweed to donate. Hurray! for you!!
I only ordered five & may order more because the Monarch watch site recommends at least ten planted together.

Last year, while I was creeping up on a bird for a photo, I put my foot right next to a rattler & I mean right next to it!!! He coiled & rattled but did not strike. I had my tripod & I think that may have confused him. I was on open ground too... no excuse, I know better.

Scary!!! I never get to see small rattlers at the ranch - not sure why - but I always end up seeing the big 5 to 6 plus footers! EEEEK!

Here's another photo of Blue Curls - this one was in the middle of one of the patches of it - it looks different in shape and of course, color.

Found this perfect flower photo shoot :o) There were three of these yellow colored Indian Blankets growing from the same plants as the normal reddish ones. Strange!

My idea of GPS coordinates is to tie a fluorescent orange ribbon on the barbed wire fence :o)

I have so many of those fluorescent orange ribbons and flags all over the ranch - to help me remember where the native plants are that I want to keep an eye on in the hopes they set seed :o)

Also use them to stake out plants I've seen eggs or caterpillars on - so I can check them on weekends.

Loving the photos of all those wildflowers, Cat! My lawn sort of looks like that right now--it is covered in front with little tiny white wildflowers and in back with somewhat bigger (but still small) purple flowers that look like miniature orchids. Too bad I had to mow them yesterday, but the other weeds were getting out of hand. So far the bermuda grass that makes up my lawn hasn't started greening up yet, but the weeds and wildflowers are doing great!

Donna, I need some of those milkweed plugs, too. I'll go over to your site and put my name on the list for some.
