My year old Buff O has gone broody twice now! Once this spring ,but didnt set, she just brooded and brawwwwked all April. All of a sudden last week she started at it again. Friday She climbed into the nesting box that had 1 egg in it and stayed there!
Here she is all puffed up in her Broody stance. Her name ..because of her mishapen comb, is Flopsie.

Obviously the other two Buffs are laying in the box also. Today I got a chance to get close to count and mark the eggs. Because Our temps have been in the upper 90's and 100's, she doesnt stay to long on her eggies between 2:30 and 4:30. she just happens to know its tooooo Hot for them!
Her nest got a good cleaning around the edges too, after I noticed she doesnt wait to do her business after she gets out! Blinking

Yes, I have a broody Buff Orpington too - only she is sitting on an empty nest. She hangs her head over the edge and pants and looks somewhere between miserable and dead!

Isnt it a sad sad look Porkpal!!!! I spray a mist of water over my Hen house every afternoon hoping to cool it down a little! For the first time I think my Chickens really enjoy getting a little wet!
Are you going to let your Broody set? Or are you going to just let her get over it?? We still have plenty of time here in the South to get a good start on chicks before cold weather!

I have no roosters so no fertile eggs. I take her off the nest a couple of times a day but she will just have to get over it.

Truth should be everpresent.
Did this hen survive the recent carnage at your place?
