We've started talking about predators and the problems they create.

Before we moved back to Arizona we were living on a wash in rural San Diego County. We had a ferret problem for one night. The ferret got one of my girls on the wing, but my roo got him.

Fred has spurs about an inch and a half long, I'm glad I left them. I found blood on the OUTSIDE of the coop, indicating that probably some of the blood inside was from the ferret and not necessarily from my hens.

That's good that he was protecting his girls. :) you have wild ferrets out there? The only ferrets I see here are in petstores.

Yes there are wild ferrets here. They're black-footed ferrets and they're protected! Evidently Fred wasn't aware of that!!!

Truth should be everpresent.
Only problem I've had is with a stray dog but I know I may have to contend with coyotes as it gets colder.

Turned out skunks would be my problem. Killed my whole flock in two nights. I don't have any chickens anymore. I miss them.

Yes, it is. My birds had all just gotten their feathers back after molting and they were so pretty.
