Hi Melissa, I too love all the breeds! I think over the course of time I have probably had at least 2/3s of them!LOL!
I have never had a Maran though.... my next goal!! Im trying to locate a local person for hatching eggs! My Silkie Girl should go broody at the first show of Spring!
Your right on about that Porkpal! I've never had hens to lay reliably during the winter until I got my Buffs. I had a couple of Giants 2 years ago and sold them to a neighbor.. Well everynow and then he brings me the biggest most beautiful eggs from them, cause he just cant use them all!
Name: Howie Wa. Invest in those you love and trust
Hi Porkpal: I have the same problem with my serama eggs. No matter how hard I try they just won't fit...LOL. One of my lady customers came over to buy eggs and I slipped in one of my serama eggs and had written on it, "Sorry It's called inflation" She responded by sending me and email pic of my serama egg and she had drawn a pic on it of the egg crying...LOL. Lots of fun around here. Haystack
I love that photo too. Is that a Serama?
We're new to chickens, only in our third year.
Here is one of my favorites, a Sultan and her two Bantam friends. Mousie on the left, is the meanest chicken EVER. He just hates me. Chippy on the right, is the sweetest bird ever. And no, none of our birds will ever end up in the stewpot, no matter how mean. They're really more pets than anything.
Last year we got 6 Rhode Island Reds, I like them a lot too. But they don't seem as smart as our Bantams, who all know their names and will answer if you call them.
MMM. I need to get my camera out and start taking pics again.. I got female Buff,Blue, Black Orpingtons. Easter eggers, 2 Cochins. I got 2 blue Orpington roos,2 male Red bronze Turkeys (my guard turkeys ), pair of Blue wheaton something..have to ask my friend again what they are..them are my new ones. A Pair of peafowls from Kenboy. Have to ask him what breed they are...lol..
Yep, turkeys are good guards. They break up fights among the roosters, chase off hawks, snakes, and run off little dogs! Everytime my mini pin gets out of the backyard, the turkeys chase her away from the chickens..lol...Yes, Blue orpingtons...
