finding joy one day at a time!
I'm starting this Christmas chat & share off with admitting I am far behind with everything! I used to send cards and decorate the house like Macy's when my kids were all with me. Now they are scattered around with homes of their own. I still put up a fully loaded tree but that's about it.

I'm going to be painting angel ornaments to give and sell and also hope to make some glass ornaments made from used light bulbs. Maybe in the summer of 2012 I can use that time to spend crafting to supplement my income! Whistling

So, what are your plans?

Like Becky, I used to really go all out with the decorations but not so much in recent years. We have a big artificial tree that I will decorate and also the mantle
Probably will buy a couple poinsettias to sit on the table and fireplace hearth
(we don't use the fireplace). Also, there will be a wreath on the front door. I have a lighted Nativity set that goes in the yard to remind passersby of the real meaning of Christmas. I am using my iPhone right now but when I get back to my laptop, I will add some photos, Christmas will be here soon! Hurray!

Hey Mau, are you anywhere near Mt. View? We go there every year the week before the Bean Festival.

Yes, Elena. I am probably about an hour an a half from Mt. View. I live in Harrison which is about 79 miles from Mt. View. When is the Bean Festival? Do you stay in one of the Bed and Breakfast places or in one of the motels?
I haven't been to Mt. View in a while but it is an interesting place to visit and the Folk Festival is there every year which attracts literally thousands of people from all over the country. The Ozark Folk Center is located there, too. Here's a link:

On almost any week-end, you can find the local folks on the square "pickin and grinnin". It is fun to sit and listen to them play the banjos and dulcimers and whatever other instruments they have.

Several years ago when I lived in Conway, AR and my DGD was in kindergarten, the grandmother of one of the students invited the class over to see her "Jesus tree". It was a Christmas tree decorated with ornaments that were symbolic of something that had to do with the Bible and/or Jesus. For instance, she had a little Pillsbury doughboy ornament that symbolized that Jesus is "the bread of life". I used to have a list of all the ornaments she had and the meaning of each of them. I probably still have it somewhere but I have moved and still have stuff in boxes in storage. I would like to do one of those Jesus trees myself!

Here is a photo of the Christmas tree that I used to have. This photo is five years old and 2006 was probably the last time that I had a Christmas tree in my own home except for a small ceramic tree that I still have. My husband was in the early stages of dementia at the time and he got it in his head that Christmas trees were a pagan thing so we gave our tree away in 2007 and most of the ornaments with it. He died in Nov, 2008 but I didn't get another tree--preferring to use the ceramic tree instead. I moved in with my daughter and her husband last March. They do have a tree which I have decorated for them the last two years and will probably do most of the decorating again this year. My daughter enjoys having a tree and decorations but it is perfectly all right with her if I do the decorating. Thumbs up
My DGD is behind the paper and her brother is in front of the tree. You can't see the whole tree but I didn't have a good picture of the entire tree. All my ornaments were white or silver.

This is a photo of my ceramic Christmas tree. My mother had this for probably 20 years before her death in 1983 and I have had it ever since.

Marilyn, I love the white ornament tree you made. There is nothing sweeter than children around the tree!

I had a ceramic tree like that for several years but somewhere along the way it was broken in a move.

Hi Becky and all... Becky knows I love Christmas. Tony and I go all out on the decorations both inside and out. Next weekend is our traditional decorating time (weekend of Thanksgiving). We're both excited! It seems since we moved to Colorado we enjoy the outdoor decorations even more. Mau, the tree that you decorate for your daughter is very beautiful, and I too have a small ceramic Christmas tree that my Mom made for me many, many years ago. I love it too. Last year I had to source some new 'lights' and a star for it (thank you, ebay). It's almost as good as new now.

I'm working on some little pine cone elves (a Martha Stewart idea/craft). They involve some tiny hand sewing, so I have to put my patient hat on, as well as my glasses! If they turn out well, I'll post a pic here. Next week I am going for a knitting lesson to learn how to make a throw blanket. Then, it's Christmas cookie time! What is everyone else doing?

Brenda DOES love to decorate!!! I think being around snow feels more festive, Brenda. I lived in Oklahoma for 5 Christmases and two had snow . . . it was magical!

I'm not doing anything yet. BUT I am creating photo collages for my kids for Christmas soon.
