| Adina, no, not poor mice, they die quickly with the taste of peanut butter on their lips! Their own mothers never gave them peanut butter. It's time to get the boots on, wrap myself in winter jacket, gloves and hat, feed horses, carry the kitchen compost bucket to the garden and bury the contents, count the dead mice, and come back inside to the warmth of the woodstove. Today is produce day again. Yeah, right, with the storm we are having I think it would be a major miracle if it is anywhere near on time! Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most. | MaryE Thanks. I'm usually called Pat. George is my surname. It has caused confusion all my life. I once shared an office with two colleagues whose surnames were Colin and Dick! When I retired five years ago my Finnish wife expressed a wish to spend the rest of her days here. As a gardener I've been on a steep learning curve ever since. Today we went to a Christmas Lunch and carol service for pensioners. Very nice, but I miss the familiar English carols. |
|
|||
| Ok, then Pat it is! I also know a family whose surname is George. Funny, that at the same time we also knew a man named Carlton Wood. I sorted them out as the one with 2 first names, and the other with two last names as I met them at the same time in the same church. Ah yes, I see why you moved. Wow, yes, a steep learning curve! What do you grow? Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most. More ramblings at http://thegatheringplacehome.myfastforum.org/forum54.php |

| Hi guys! Sorry I haven't been here, but I was so busy. Yesterday we had to go to the car shop service to have the car battery checked and it took 5 hours!!! I was exausted when we got home. Today we had an ice storm and the power went off and on, so it was awful. Still have no power, but we have the generator on, but it works only for downstairs. I had to cook, do laundry and still have so much to do! Tomorrow DD is coming!!!!! |

| Hello all! Been and still is a busy week for me. I am playing ketchup, I mean catch up. Welcome Pat George! Forever to be known as pat. Quite interesting to move from England to Finland....just a tad different, eh? How long have you been living there? I am sure your wife is glad to be back in her home country though. Where did y'all meet? Please tell us more about both places. Maybe Jon will drop by. Another Englander who moved to Japan with his wife. What a traveling group you are. Mary, your Thanksgiving sounded so welcoming and comfortable. Made me want to come over and curl up in a chair and read. But, alas, back to reality with the family gone and you bundling up in boots etc to go out and take care of the animals. How did the delivery go at the coop? Did you get anything yet? wren, how are you doing these days? Adina, now that the kids have arrived I know the articles problem won't bother you much anymore. I am sad they did not publish them though. Have fun with the family. Talk with people around the world. Visit Carpe diem and seize the day! Also, Jigsaw Puzzles, Excel forum and tutorials. |

| Miracles do happen, the truck was earlier than it has ever been. Maybe he hurried to stay ahead of the storm. Hubby had to plow the driveway before I could get out. It's a pretty long one and uphill all the way. Now he has the snowblower hitched to the tractor. We bought a used one that was almost new a couple of years ago. It will prove to be a good investment. The weather forecasters say we are having an El Nineo winter, so that means a lot of snow. We didn't get much last year but he did use it 2 or 3 times. It's been snowing a little all day, the first was quite wet, almost rainy, so it just disappeared into the snow we already have, but now I see nice fluffy flakes. We have some drifts that are 2 ft high. Turkey soup for dinner, I think with dumplings. It's a soup kind of day. Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most. | I guess you are use to it! I lived in snowy places for many years and it was so pretty and at first I thought it was wonderful. After a few years of doing chores and going to work in it, I changed my mind and ran away! That big fluffy stuff sure is pretty and fun though. Glad the coop truck made it ahead of the snow and you maybe got some good veggies etc to put in your turkey soup! That does sound good on a cold, snowy evening. I guess hubby will be busy this winter clearing snow most every day! Talk with people around the world. Visit Carpe diem and seize the day! Also, Jigsaw Puzzles, Excel forum and tutorials. |

| Hey, everyone! Andreea and Nicholas are here! We had a terrible ice storm here which froze all the wires and the power went off for 3 whole days!!! It was on Wednesday, just a day before Andreea came and I had so much work to do. Instead, I had to go and fill in the generator's tank. We had it on and off all these days....especially on since Andreea came with the baby. We had warm enough, all was well, we had light and TV and cable, but we were so busy with each other. It has been raining too, so what can I say ,a yucky weather all in all! We had 2 days off, so we could enjoy the kids and take care of them. They have published 2 of my articles. Here are the links : http://davesgarden.com/guides/articles/view/3055/ http://davesgarden.com/guides/articles/view/3061/ Sandy, |

| We had 8" to 10" of snow last night ... so I am off to clear the driveway and sidewalk. We'll what happens to the day after that ... not sure how long it will take to get the roads cleared so we'll see about getting some photos of the area. Might be a good day to hunker down and stay home. | @ Weeds - This pic wasn't taken today, frost in one's hair happens when the temps get down to single digits and lower. That's when I start wearing the beaver hat (you can see frost in the beaver fur here, too) ... If the temps are above 10 degrees, a hat like that gets you sweating: not good in cold country. If you happen to get to Chena Hot Springs about 60 miles out of Fairbanks on a minus 50 temp day, you can sit in water at 104 degrees with air temps at -50 ... frost "grows" on your eye lashes and eye brows ... drinking a glass of wine, watching the northern lights, sitting in the hot springs ... Ahhh ... ain't nuthin' lak it ... Here's a link to Chena Hot Springs: http://www.chenahotsprings.com/ Take some time to look the site over. They are generating "green power" there using geo-thermal processes. It's a Kewl place. ![]() "Magpie" Jon Alaska images at the Magpie cubit - go to Alaska Photos and Commentary: http://cubits.org/Magpie/thread/view/42616/ Also Post under "Jon Deisher" on FB, LinkedIn & G+ (If you need an invitation, let me know) |

| I will have to let that sink in! I did go to a spa in Berlin and we did the sauna and the jump in the snow. About killed me! I also lived through some winters with 10 degree temps and it hurt me. That is why I am here in my short sleeves and freezing at 40 degrees! I admire you for your ability to withstand the cold! Our bodies sure do adapt don't they? Talk with people around the world. | Basically, the human body is a tropical one. We just learn to keep the air around us (clothing, homes, cars, etc) at a temperate atmosphere at any geography in order to survive. I remember my time in the tropics ... it is nice to be able to amble around without being encumbered like an abominable snowman. But, there are advantages to living where the population is not so dense, too. Yesterday my hubby was the official town Santa. He spent several hours in this chair with little kids on his lap. We had some fun before the kids starting arriving and there is always an elf or somebody willing to snap a picture so I can be in one. After dark the town had a parade with Santa and his Elf riding in a fancy carriage pulled by a pair of draft horses, tree lighting, the high school choir sang Jingle Bells and Joy to the World. By then Santa was glad to call it a day. It was great fun. One little boy told Santa that he wanted his adoption to be final so he could have parents for Christmas! That one was a tear jerker!![]() ![]() Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most. More ramblings at http://thegatheringplacehome.myfastforum.org/forum54.php |

| That is so cool! Love the carriage YOUR Santa rode in and I'll bet the whole town really enjoyed the day, especially the parade. Does he usually play Santa or was this a first for him?
