I have set my default program for photos to my main photo program, Picasa, yet when I put my SD card into the computer, Windows Media (or whatever the Windows photo program is called) opens up instead. Can I uninstall this? I NEVER use it. I am always leery of removing things that were on the computer when I got it.

Thanks

Sheri,

Go to:

Control Panel
Autoplay

You can set your defaults there. I have it "Ask me every time". That way a window comes up, and I can choose to use windows explorer or open in Canon Zoombrowser, for my camera.

I bought a TV tuner card and installed it - my ISP is cable. I can watch and record TV programs thru Win Media Center now. It's really great. I should have purchased one with the HD graphics, tho, but I went the cheap route!

I think that is where I went to set Picasa to be the one that is suppose to open and since it doesn't open like it should, maybe it would be better to set it to ask every time. At least then I wouldn't have two programs I DON'T want opening up popping up (and Picasa that I WANT to open, I have to manually open after I close the others!)

I just loaded Picasa onto my pc, and here is the print screen from Autoplay. It added "Copy pictures to your computer and view them using Picasa 3". This is version 3.6.0.

If its not showing up in your Autoplay, you may want to uninstall and re-install Picasa. Maybe it didn't pick it up from an earlier version.

Thanks Carol! A picture is jsut what I needed. I am such a visual learner it is hard to read something and then apply it. Picasa does not show in my list. Not sure about uninstalling and reinstalling as I have a lot of pictures there?

In the meantime I marked "take no action". At least then nothing should try to auto start and I can just open Picasa manually like I always have to anyway===after closing out all the others that try to open.

Uninstalling Picasa shouldn't affect any of your pictures - they should all be in your Pictures Library, unless you've been putting them elsewhere. Under Tools... Folder Manager... will show where your pictures are. That is where you tell Picasa to look for your pictures.

You can check your version of Picasa by opening it and checking the Help... About Picasa. Mine is 3.6.0 and says it is for Win XP, Vista and 7.

Mine said 3.6.0 but when I clicked to check for updates, it started running an update so I'll see if it shows in that list after that.

Thanks again
