Most of my issues so far, I have been able to figure out, but not all.

Ok, the problem I was going to ask about, I had pictures for but now I have another problem as well. MY SD card drive won't see my card. It acts like it has no clue I put a card in there. Even when I go to "Computer" I do not see the SD card. UGH

The other problem has to do with audio. In the Easy Transfer Report it shows I need to install AMD USB Audio Driver Filter. When I click the link to get information on downloading this, it takes me here: http://www.amd.com/us/Pages/AMDHomePage.aspx and I can not for the life of me find where to download this driver.

Alright, figured out the flash player was fine in Internet Explorer just not in FireFox. I got rid of FF and installed Google Chrome and everything with flash seems to be working just fine.

Now my two biggest issues at the moment are the Audio driver (if I need it?) and my SD card reader.

I was concerned about the Audio driver because when I did the test call on Skype it said my speakers were not working but then my daughter called me and I could hear her and she could hear me. My computer makes sounds at all the right times so I don't know what that driver is even for?

Sheri,

You can't find the correct Windows 7 driver from HP's website? If not, post or email me your exact model number of the laptop and I'll locate the correct driver for you. From the link you posted, look for the red and black ATI Radeon emblem at top right. Next to it select the components in the laptop. Does system in Control panel show any devices without drivers installed other than audio? Windows may have loaded a default driver for audio, thus the reason you heard sound over the speakers. Is the SD card reader a slot on the laptop or a USB device you bought? With those two items giving you problems, I'm thinking you don't have the chipset drivers installed.

John,

The SD card is a slot in the computer. I have a HP DV7.

I had the install set to automatically install updates as I went along yet this morning there were 31 critical and 6 optional updates. In the list of updates was the audio driver so I'll check things after the updates are done and I will check things and come back and post again.

Thanks again!

Not that either of us are seeing. We tried just doing an internet search for the driver and any link we found took us to the same site I posted above.

HP PavilionDV7 1451RV (the last letters are hard to read on the sticker so I am not 100% sure we have those right)

In the drop down box all I see is graphics stuff. Nothing about audio?

I'm not real sure where you are asking about here. I went to the control panel & System but I don't see anything showing a list of devices without drivers installed.

I answered this question above but so all the answers are in one spot: it is a slot in the computer.

Where would I find that?

I feel like I am being a real pain here. I'm sorry!!

A side question: Windows 7 does not include Microsoft Works. I have several daycare documents on MW. They are still on my computer but they won't open. Is there a program I can use, perhaps a free one, that will open these documents, allow me to edit and save and also print?

Looking under "chipset driver" I ended up at this page: http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=vista64/in...

There are so many choices though that I wasn't sure what, if anything, I should download so I stopped there.

Sheri,

I ran across a 1451NR but not an RV. Try this link please http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=... That will automatically detect your model and locate the correct drivers. I may have been wrong about the chipset. There is a driver for the card reader under 1451NR but I'd rather you to make sure its correct first. The drivers for the 1451 are here, 32bit OS http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=... 64bit OS here http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4063&... Which version of Works did you have installed? And no, you're not being a pain.

Sheri,

Forgot you asked about location of device drivers. You can find if them in Control panel:Hardware and Sound:Device Manager If you have any issues with drivers/devices they should show there. You can click on any of the devices to view their respective drivers.

Ah, thank you! »HP Pavilion dv7-1451nr Entertainment Notebook PC
My hubby had looked at the sticker (with his bifocals AND a magnifying glass. After I looked at it I thought it said 1451nr but I'm glad you linked me to the detection tool so I could be 100% sure. Old age and eyes! UGH (and we aren't THAT old either)

I found the driver for the card reader and will go install it. After that I will go to the control panel and check that list.

I'll be back in a bit to let you know how things sit then.

THANK YOU!

As for Microsoft Works, I have no clue what version I had, it was whatever had come on the computer when I bought it. That is all I know. Big Grin

Sheri.

Glad to hear it's working as it should. Have you tried Open Office for the Works files? What file format are the documents?

I didn't think I had but then I downloaded it and it is the program I came across yesterday doing an internet search. I couldn't get it to open the file I need and still couldn't tonight. I did take some pictures tonight though so I'll put them on my computer and come back and post them. Maybe you can see something I am missing.

Alright, so when you try to open a file apparently you have to chose from a LONG list, just what program type the file is. I had to take 10 photos to show them all so I did two collages so I didn't have to post so many photos. I numbered each photo and #1 shows the file I was trying to open (all the ones that I really NEED to open are the same type of file.) The rest show the list that you have to chose from. I started going down the list trying them one at a time but got lost after several tries. *Blush*

Sheri,

Yes, you're going to need Works or Word, or the OpenOffice equivalent to open those files.

Here is an article from Microsoft on opening a Works file in word:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315757

Down in "Method 2", "Step 1", they mention downloading a "Works 6-9 Converter".

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=bf4...

I think if you download the converter, convert your files from works documents to Word documents, you will be able to use the program you downloaded on Sunday, choosing the file type 'Microsoft Word 6.0'

Be sure to back up your files before attempting to convert!
