As a weed barrier, I wet newspaper and laid it down in the path area. I used the entire newspaper folded it in half, dunked it in a bucket of water and then set it down. layered the next newspaper over the first by a few inches.

Then set the stones in place, and filled with compost and top soil.

Then we planted blue star creeper between all the stones.

This is the pond/seating area shortly after we planted

oooh ! found a good pix of the very beginning....except I moved the right side to go straight along the whole area instead of the horseshoe I originally laid out.

I will say though, that ALL of the work was done by lil ole me! Big Grin Pond, path and plantings! i started in late jan 08, and worked evenings and weekends on it. and I was very, very pleased with the end results!

Okay now the recycled cement patio.

we had an icky walkway in our front yard that the previous owners had poured. It was roughly poured...not a smouth surface. It wrapped around our entire lawn, it was ugly, and I hated it! It had to go! But hauling off cement costs a fortune in our area, so we used the broken pieces to create a patio in front of our detached gym/shed

before pix ... and once again, this work was done all by myself Big Grin

I had to flatten out an area for the rose bush barrel. To make a steadier base for the barrel and arbor, I used base tamped down under the cement, then filled in the spaces between those pieces with the base rock and some sand. the rest of the patio is filled in with dirt.

The doggies view (from the side yard)

Unfortunately I didnt use wet newspapers under this patio and now I have weeds all over again. I never did get a chance to plant the area. I want to try roundup and corn glucous on the area this spring and hopefully plant all the beds over there!
