| This is a fun and silly project I learned from someone on DG. This waterproof tote bag is made from plastic store bags. The white is from grocery stores, the brown from another grocery store and the dark green from Cabelas. I take the bag and fold it several times length wise and cut off the bottom. Then cut across width wise of the bag 3/4" slices. The cuts are easy because the bag is folded to about 2" or so wide and the cuts are made more uniform (these cut pieces unfold into loops) I hook the loops together and roll the "yarn" into a ball. I crochet a rectangle base, then DC in the round changing colors and add some handles crocheted right to the bag. Takes longer to make the yarn than to crochet the bag, but it is a fun and unusual project that is made for free. What a great bag to take to the beach for wet towels or swimsuits. What is a weed? | That is so clever how the 'yarn' is made. I really had to visualize it get how it made a yarn, Thanks, that's very cool! |

| Thats actually a really nice looking bag. Like you said, perfect for wet stuff. |

| Thank you very much. My grandmother would have loved this project. She was the queen of making cool stuff out of nothing. What is a weed? A plant whose virtues have not yet been discovered. Ralph Waldo Emerson |

| That is great. I gave one of these to my daughter that lives in St Louis. She uses it and says that she is now the "queen of green". What is a weed? A plant whose virtues have not yet been discovered. Ralph Waldo Emerson |

| Thanks. I think the trick is to not make the plastic loops too wide. At first, I could barely crochet it. Now that I got the knack to make the plastic uniform width and not too wide, it goes pretty easy. It was just a fun project. What is a weed? A plant whose virtues have not yet been discovered. | firefly, that I really nice bag! I may have to relearn how to crochet. Here's a couple of purses I made by recycling my gdaughters pants; size 3Toddler. ![]() ![]() |

| Cute booty bags. I had made some of those a couple years ago too. They are fun to dress with scarves and belts and luggage tags hooked on the belt loops. You did a great job. Thanks for posting your great idea. I saw a lady with one of the bags I make only with single crochet. I like it better. I will try one this winter as this is a winter project for me. What is a weed? | I used up all the belts that came with slacks that I hated. They looked great on the bags. What is a weed? A plant whose virtues have not yet been discovered. Ralph Waldo Emerson |

| I stumbled onto an abandoned thread I see, but just had to comment on that bag! All I have been able to figure out to do with my plastic bags is to donate them to the animal shelter for doggie-do from the walks. You should make lots of those bags, they are wonderful. Which is harder, crochet or knitting? Because it looks like I'll need to learn one or the other.... Decisions, decisions. I tried a couple of usernames and have finally settled on: crittergarden. That's it, no more changes. I'm done. I will be crittergarden here, on Cubits, and when I renew my Dave's Garden subscription on Noveber 4, I'll be crittergarden over there, too. DONE! |

| Thank you for the nice comments. I believe that crochet is easier. You only work with one loop at a time to ravel, as with knitting, you have several loops on a needle to worry about. Did you ever loop stuff together as a kid? You know, you start with a loop and pull the thread through the loop to make another loop. It is a chain stitch and the basis of crochet. The hook helps to pull the yarn through. I taught myself to crochet when quite young. It is awkward at first and I would start with yarn to get used to it. Maybe a scarf or a dishrag would be a good first project. What is a weed? A plant whose virtues have not yet been discovered. Ralph Waldo Emerson |
