You can now creates content pages for your cubit.
Go to your Main Control panel and enabled the "Pages" feature. Then you can go into your Pages Control Panel and create new pages.
Once you create a page, click Edit and you can then type whatever you want in the body. BB Code is enabled. On the right side you can click 'Upload new photo" to make images available. How to bring the images into the body of your page is explained in that area.
Once you have pages to show, a link called "Pages" will appear in the right-side bar of your cubit's front page. You can also link to each page from your infoboxes or wherever you wish.
Nice. However I tired uploading a photo(s) it looked like they uploaded but nothing is visible and I see no other explanation of how to get the photos into the body of the page. Help!
Dear Dave, I think the words you are "simply the best," somewhat spring to mind!

One day, perhaps...but we wanted to get this feature in ASAP, so it seemed more important to just do it, than to try to make it fully functional in all it's potential snazzyness, which would have taken a week or so.
We'll let you know if/when that feature becomes available!

Thanks Trish, getting time to play with the new features is NICE so I do appreciate that you two like to get them up ASAP. I realize the text wrap may be a tall order, I'm happy either way.

ok, I can link. Would be ultra cool though if the titles replaced "pages" though once we had a title to replace it with
Would save us having to take up valuable info box space for a link to something that already has a spot....

And what happens for the cubits that have hundreds or thousands of pages? Will they all be linked down the right side, too?
The "Pages" links to your table of contents from which the visitor can view all your pages. If you want to bring special attention to a particular page (or pages) then the BB code is enabled in the right side infobox for that.
I think this gives all the flexibility and features that are needed.

You're right, of course. I wasn't looking far enough into the future. Ten years from there very well may be hundreds or thousands of articles in a cubit.
I was hoping to have a big photo. instead of a thumbnail. click pages, wait,,, click click title, wait... then a wee larger picture. Picky picky me....
I am a visually oriented person, rather than words, even tho I yakk a lot.
coconut, you can have it open to the larger image within the size constraints Dave has placed on file sizes.
this will show you the two ways to add images and the results. http://cubits.org/zanysplaypen/pages/19/

Kathy , "Link to your new page from your Right Side Infobox" is what Dave said, I haven't tried that yet.
Brenda, thanks for the [^^?}. LOL I want a picture much much larger, like the entire computer screen. sigh. I'm a picture thinker. And am getting awfully tired of white with words (reading to do, instead of looking)
Okay, from what I am seeing and hearing, my thoughts on what a page was is not the same as what I am seeing. I thought we were talking about an opening page, when some one first comes into our Cubit. From there it would have some graphic content for interest, some informational content, and links (on right side) to take them to different Forums (Articles, Databases, Chat etc). Sorry it takes me so long to understand. Or maybe I'm still not understanding? Hate to start on it without know just how and where it will be used. HELP.
Name: Lee Anne Stark Ontario, Canada Perpetually happy!
Look on the right side of my Hoya Cubit...there is the word pages that takes you to all of the informational articles and pages of interest...there is only one listed but will be more.
cubits.org/hoya
I see how that works. Does that mean we can do away with the listings of Forum on that front page? I see a link for Forums and the Pages links. I think the opening page would have more eye appeal without the Forums listed on that page? Maybe in info box mention links on right side? Not sure.
BTW, I love you site. : )
Name: Lee Anne Stark Ontario, Canada Perpetually happy!
Thanks!
Remember, that right side follows people around even in the forums so the articles (pages) are available from anywhere within your Cubit.
The Forum also does, it will take someone back to your cubits front page from anywhere within the forums. I think it is valuable where it is.
I am starting to understand it's function and can see it's value. I just have such a hard time understanding from written words what is being presented. It all make sense. Now I can do something with it. Thank you again Lee Ann for your patient teaching.

Yes, took me a while to be told to "Make Blue" the address above the picture, Hold down the control key and move the cursor over the writing, whole thing will turn blue.
Then drag it into the other side where your writing is.
How about the words " Selected Features" instead of just "pages." Gotta be a couple of classy words somewhere that would be a good generic fit.
Cubits and our cubits are designed on a more sophisticated over-all viewing look. The word Pages just kinda hangs out their in right field and obscure looking.
Selected Features sounds good.
Melissa, where are you getting the link from. When I click upload new picture in the page editing window it pops up 'Choose File to Upload'. All it shows is picture files from my computer.
I am so frustrated, I know I am missing something very simple.
Name: Lee Anne Stark Ontario, Canada Perpetually happy!
Lynn, you're half way there. Choose the picture from your file like you would uploading a pic to a thread. Upload the pic. Above the pic you will see a line of writing, looking suspiciously like code. Copy that and then paste it into the body of what you are righting on the left hand side.
Lynn where is your pic on your computer. Is it in cubit files or your own home computer? I haven't tried to load a pic yet, on the pages, but will using IE if it will help ya out.
Name: Lee Anne Stark Ontario, Canada Perpetually happy!
OK, I just tried to upload a pic for a page using internet explorer and it wouldn't show up. The upload process happened but no pic :(
That must be the problem Lynn.

well, i used IE and uploaded a picture, said it was uploaded but
there was NO picture but I saved changes. Then, opened in
FF and went to that page and viola, the picture was there
so I could put the address in the page and now the picture is there.
I can see the picture in both browsers now on the page.
Even in IE I can see it on the right hand side.

Firefox is free, and SO much safer that IE. Nothing changes when you download it, your computer will be almost completely the same. I don't know what will be different, I don't remember any difference when I did that a long time ago. But something must be different! Fear not!
Hello, cancel the search party.
I am so relieved, my computer is still working. Boy do things look different now. A much smaller viewing screen with all this stuff up top? Looking around.
Do you have any idea how happy I am right now? I thought I was just to dumb to figure it out. Sorry, just had to do another group hug. Thanks to all of you for helping me get this figured out.

Lynn.. I was petrified to switch to Firefox too thinking I would loose IE, but made the jump and haven't looked back I still use I E for some things like emails, cuz haven't figured out seeing security logins on firefox, but for everything else firefox is awesome.

Lynn, I think you can get rid of too many extra lines on top of your screen. Tho' I don't know exactly how to do it. I did once long ago, on a PC far away...
Way cool. I had to go get a blanket. Your dogs are so cute.
A video. Mmmm, don't know how that would work for me. But I sure can see how that would be an amazing thing for some Cubits.
If ya go up to Zany's Playpen, you can play around with your video uploads and pics and stuff. She has a playground cubit for everybody to try things out and if ya need graphics and don't know how to do it, she'll help ya.
Melissa, I went to View and chose Full Screen. Then I couldn't find how to get the tool bar back. Went off line and came back on and it was back. Boy something else to figure out. I still haven't figured out how to utilize the little tab feature. That would be great.
Let's see think you click a couple of times up there in that area. Left click. I do that some times to myself. Lose all the tool bars and everything and then freak til I remember how to get it back.
for me its the best selling feature ever! LOL! is there a way to get ff to automatically correct typos? without the red squiggly? I can hardly see the red....so...
Trish and Dave, I would also like the option to have the text wrap around photos. I think the finished page would look much better that way. Maybe you could give us two style options on the page... "wrap" for pages with only one photo thumbnail at top... and "don't wrap" for pages that will have more than one image on top.
Name: Dave Whitinger Jacksonville, Texas Resident cubit-master
Advanced features like wrapping will be present in the "Articles" feature, which will be a full-blown articles system that gives you 100% control over the presentation.
Once that's ready, you'll be able to move your "Pages" over to your "Articles" if you want that functionality.
dave wrote:Advanced features like wrapping will be present in the "Articles" feature, which will be a full-blown articles system that gives you 100% control over the presentation.
Ahhh, okay. Yes, that's exactly what I intended to do with my "Pages" ... as a Learning Center for the Cubit. Right now, I have the info in a forum and it just gets lost down there in the chat. Any idea how long until the "Articles" feature will be launched?
Love your page Evey. It is atractive and interesting to read. Great job.
So if we move Written articles over to an Article button, what kind of information would we us with the pages button? Or will out main page evetually be graphics and advertising, with the page button taking us to the different Forums?

While Firefox may have many wonderful features, the vast majority of computer users use Microsoft products. If the goal of cubits is to become one of the top 1000 websites, it seems that incorporating features that will only work with Firefox is counterproductive.

I agree. I hope you can get all the great features to

I uploaded a photo, but it doesn't appear on the page? I tried the refresh and still nothing. I use IE, tried Firefox and lost all my favs so switched back, is that the problem that I am not running Firefox?
I moved all my bookmarks over to Firefox from IE (they are in a folder in my bookmarks called "From Internet Explorer") over a year ago. Now I hafta remember how I did it! Okay, go to bookmarks, organize bookmark, on the top right of the library page pick import, the import wizard pops up and you can chose from IE. BTW, do this in Ff.
Candee. when uploaded firefox and it asked if you wanted everything from IE transferred did you click yes. It still leaves everything in IE, but also makes a copy in firefox. In firefox all the favs is under bookmarks on toolbar now.

The big problem here is that I don't have IE installed on my computer because IE isn't available for Linux computers.
So, I have to boot my laptop up but my laptop is very old and doesn't run well. So, it's very difficult for me to program the site to work around all of IE's bugs.
I uploaded a picture from IE and it didn't work at first. I did get it to work by clicking upload new photo, it takes me to my pictures, I click on the picture I want and it acts like it is uploading but nothing shows up. I went back to my pictures and double click on the one I wanted, it opens up another page and I have the option to open it in IE, Paint etc. I clicked on open with IE and another page shows up, I click and copy the page address and close all the windows and I am back at the page without a picture. I click enter and it shows up in the box on the left hand side. So it can be done but it takes a lot of steps. I hope I explained that so that it can be understood.

One lady became a little upset sounding, "What's wrong with IE? I've always used it" I mumbled something about more virus and hackers, but didn't really know how to answer her. Owell!
well, I'm not sure what all is 'wrong' with IE but since I switched to FF I have not had one single error message, nor have I been bumped offline at all. Combine that with the spell check and I'm sold for certain!
I use Firefox for most things but I have an IE and a Safari window open as well so I can hop between all 3 and check things out.
It is also handy because I can be logged out in IE - so see what the visitor sees and logged in and working in Firefox at the same time. But then I'm a woman and used to multi-tasking
I tried numerous times yesterday & today to download FF, but was unable to do so. It gets to 1 sec and 1% remaining on my confuser, and then hangs. I tried temporarily setting my security lower, but it still did the same thing. Sigh....

I joined it because I found it was really inspirational. Lovely place you have there Becky! I enjoyed the art work AND the verses too. Too many times in my life, God has sent me verses just like you have at just the right moment. I will be checking in when I need that inspiration. Having joined, it's right there on my home page as a reminder to always put God first. Thanks Becky!

I am just going to upload the articles to the "Pages" area for now and figure out what else can go there after the "Articles" area is launched. I'm getting used to flying blind with all the new things we keep getting around here!
I have to say that there are some strange things going on with the page feature. I tried all several times yesterday to download photos and they never showed up until today? (using IE). I too had a problem trying to download FF. Same problem as mentioned earlier by Imapigeon.
SO...I already had Safari on my computer but had never used it and it worked like a charm! Instant downloads and I finally got my first page completed and linked it in the right box info.
Thanks Patti! It was easy to do also. The only thing is don't try to expand the photo's while editing in Safari. I lost quite a bit and had to go back and redo it! No biggie though!
Becky I just got back. Went and looked again. It was wonderful. That is my all time favorite verse. Thank you for sharing it.
Evey, I just keep trying to see ahead where it is all going. I shouldn't do that, it just confuses me.
Regarding a new name for Pages, it has to be a generic title (as someone else had mentioned) that would fit for everyone. "Special Features" or just "Features" does not comply. "Information Pages" might work, but I'm not entirely sure of that either.
I propose two further possibilities:
1) Have Dave auto format to put the name of the cubit in front of the word "Pages".
Thus, the "Pages" in the Wood Craft cubit would become "Wood Craft Pages".
2) down the road, perhaps we might be able to coax Dave to allow us to completely personalize the name ourselves. Being the ultimate solution, each of us could call the pages whatever we desire.
I like that suggestion of the cubit name with Pages. Would kinda make it stand out some and make people curious to see what are the cubit's pages. Their surprise when they find additional information, reports and resources.
Name: Candee Gaye Western Maryland It is what it is!
I think that since Dave is working on the Articles that a good rename for the pages would be Features - I like that idea Rick.
Becky your inspirational page is lovely and however you did that photo with the trust cubes is excellent!

OK am I the only one that is having a devil of a time trying to upload photos into the pages? I click on upload photo. I choose my photo. And I wait... and I wait... and I wait. and then wait some more. Finally I select ALL of my page text and copy it to a clip board. Exit out of pages. Come back, paste in my stuff. And try the upload again. And I wait.... and I wait... and wait even more. Still not showing up for me to insert where I want it. So I do the copy the clip board thing again. Then I click out and come back in again. Sometimes 3 of the same photo are there. Sometimes not. But if I click to refresh the screen a whole bunch of the same photos are there, like i was an idiot for uploading them numerous times.
Needless to say, it's extremely frustrating trying to create a page this way. Perhaps I should wait for the articles.
Just had to let off some steam. Sorry for the outburst! I'll go back to the corner now.

I've ALWAYS used Firefox. At least for the past 8-10 years. I don't fire up IE on any of my machines, though it's there if some idiot site won't work right in Firefox. I remember Best Buy Rewards points had to be printed using IE. Just another reason I didn't like Best Buy. Don't get me started on them!
I had trouble with the pages the first day he changed them, and I c-mailed him about it, but I was lead to believe it was user error, I am often the problem, it was giving me 3 and sometimes 4 copies of the photo I was uploading.

I've only done one so far, and that was the Welcome for the Artisan's Nook. I had the same problem, but I've been having serious timing out issues that have nothing to do with the site, but everything to do with my router. That could still be the problem in this case because I am on my desktop now. When I am on my hubby's laptop, even though it uses the same connection, I hardly ever have any photo loading or timing out issues. I've already got a call in to my computer dude, but he won't be in town for another week or so. So in the meantime, I am just winging it.

I kept getting a message tat said something like a photo had to already be there, but I was trying to upload the first one.
Will fiddle with it again soon.
Becky, I envy the folks that are recovering from Computeritis, and live out in the real world full time. I only know a few, the addiction is far worse than any drug.
Little bug on pages: When you delete a page and get the confirmation screen, there is a link that says to click to return to the Forums Control Panel. It should say that it returns you to the Pages Control Panel, which is where it actually does take you. Functionally, it's working... but the wrong words may confuse some folks.
Maybe I'm missing this.... I've poked around a bit to try to find it, but couldn't.
Why did the name of "Pages" change to "Featured Pages"? The info I had put in the pages section certainly aren't things I wanted to "feature"... those items are in the Articles area. I used my pages for things like the Community Guidelines... stuff that I didn't want responses on but merely wanted to post as informational.
What are others putting in pages that would warrant the title "Featured"? Just curious. Would also like suggestions on where to move the info I have there right now, since the title doesn't fit my content there anymore.
Name: Janet Colvin Z8~Beaumont~Southeast Texas Proud member of Cubits.org
OK, so I have a question that i haven't seen in the Articles Forum. Say I have a page I just spent HOURS creating. And I now want to make that an article. Now that I've enables articles, how to I convert it from a PAGE to an Article?
Hmmm. I plan on putting a page with videos of my orchid set up and how I water. It's definitely going to be a feature (pretty amazing to see the contortions I go through!). Should I make a page and put a link on the welcome box?
Can anyone tell me please if photos can be resized to put on pages. I have not figured that one out yet. I would like to put some smaller photos on a page.
I seem to be having trouble today with some of my Pages content. The links are sending to Cubits home page instead of to the source for topiary forms. I did finally get that one to work again. But I can't seem to get the one for Plant Sources to work. http://cubits.org/sedumandsempervivum/admin/features/pages/i...
I have recoded them the same way I redid the Page for How To Make Succulent Wreaths and Topiary. How did they lose their coding? They were working.
I notice a lot of folks are having a hard time deciding what Pages might be good for, especially now that there are Articles....I have the idea of using Pages in the future for a weekly newsletter and for the occasional contest or challenge. It would be easy to link to it in your right side info box so you can call it whatever you like and it'll be easy for folks to find.
If you were having some type a challenge, it would be a good place to put the relevant rules and info that would be easy to find and not lost in a forum somewhere. Also a good place to post winners :)
Name: Janet Colvin Z8~Beaumont~Southeast Texas Proud member of Cubits.org
Yep, copy and paste and it's good to go. You can tweak it when it gets to the articles side.
I did a page the other day that had a whole bunch of photos. I hadn't no more than got the page finished, when the articles came available. I worried that the photos wouldn't transfer, but they did beautifully.
The great thing is that there is a photo uploader in the articles that works 1000 times better than in pages!
Name: Candee Gaye Western Maryland It is what it is!
Great had no idea the photo would copy and paste! Thanks and will tweek it later. Grandbabies coming this weekend so will be doubly busy and this will help!
I love the pages feature when you want to write an article but just keep it within your own cubit. I've been linking various pages to other sites though. Is there any way you can add a View count on the pages, like on the articles?
(If you would like to throw in some fancy fonts...that would be nice too! Just kidding! )
Name: Dave Whitinger Jacksonville, Texas Resident cubit-master
Kathy,
There is no viewcount ability for pages, but they are tracked through your traffic report. You should be able to pull that up and see its loads through that.
As for articles, you can keep them from appearing on the homepage simply by not selecting a thumbnail image. Protip.
Name: Dave Whitinger Jacksonville, Texas Resident cubit-master
I have written a few articles in my Plant Guilds cubit that weren't really "articles", so I just left off the thumbnail and that kept it so only my cubit's members could see it come up.
I was wondering why I wasn't seeing new articles on Plant Guilds. I just assumed you have been very busy and didn't have time. Now I will have to go check them out. Where is the little running guy?
To make a clickable word in Pages''
Highlight the word that you want to use as the link and click on the chain at the top of the box. copy and paste the address of the page you want to link to in there. blushing I forgot about that last night!
