You can now creates content pages for your cubit.

Go to your Main Control panel and enabled the "Pages" feature. Then you can go into your Pages Control Panel and create new pages.

Once you create a page, click Edit and you can then type whatever you want in the body. BB Code is enabled. On the right side you can click 'Upload new photo" to make images available. How to bring the images into the body of your page is explained in that area.

Once you have pages to show, a link called "Pages" will appear in the right-side bar of your cubit's front page. You can also link to each page from your infoboxes or wherever you wish.

The image should automatically appear, but admittedly this works best with Firefox.

If the image does not appear after you upload it, try refreshing the page. Then it should appear.

One day, perhaps...but we wanted to get this feature in ASAP, so it seemed more important to just do it, than to try to make it fully functional in all it's potential snazzyness, which would have taken a week or so.

We'll let you know if/when that feature becomes available!

And what happens for the cubits that have hundreds or thousands of pages? Will they all be linked down the right side, too?

The "Pages" links to your table of contents from which the visitor can view all your pages. If you want to bring special attention to a particular page (or pages) then the BB code is enabled in the right side infobox for that.

I think this gives all the flexibility and features that are needed.

Kathy , "Link to your new page from your Right Side Infobox" is what Dave said, I haven't tried that yet.

Brenda, thanks for the [^^?}. LOL I want a picture much much larger, like the entire computer screen. sigh. I'm a picture thinker. And am getting awfully tired of white with words (reading to do, instead of looking)

Okay, from what I am seeing and hearing, my thoughts on what a page was is not the same as what I am seeing. I thought we were talking about an opening page, when some one first comes into our Cubit. From there it would have some graphic content for interest, some informational content, and links (on right side) to take them to different Forums (Articles, Databases, Chat etc). Sorry it takes me so long to understand. Or maybe I'm still not understanding? Hate to start on it without know just how and where it will be used. HELP.

I see how that works. Does that mean we can do away with the listings of Forum on that front page? I see a link for Forums and the Pages links. I think the opening page would have more eye appeal without the Forums listed on that page? Maybe in info box mention links on right side? Not sure.
BTW, I love you site. : )

Remember, that right side follows people around even in the forums so the articles (pages) are available from anywhere within your Cubit.
The Forum also does, it will take someone back to your cubits front page from anywhere within the forums. I think it is valuable where it is.

Yes, took me a while to be told to "Make Blue" the address above the picture, Hold down the control key and move the cursor over the writing, whole thing will turn blue.

Then drag it into the other side where your writing is.

Then click "PUBLISH" that's what I missed....

How about the words " Selected Features" instead of just "pages." confused Gotta be a couple of classy words somewhere that would be a good generic fit.

Cubits and our cubits are designed on a more sophisticated over-all viewing look. The word Pages just kinda hangs out their in right field and obscure looking.

Lynn, you're half way there. Choose the picture from your file like you would uploading a pic to a thread. Upload the pic. Above the pic you will see a line of writing, looking suspiciously like code. Copy that and then paste it into the body of what you are righting on the left hand side.

http://cubits.org/Clematis/pages/49/

Trish and Dave, I would also like the option to have the text wrap around photos. I think the finished page would look much better that way. Maybe you could give us two style options on the page... "wrap" for pages with only one photo thumbnail at top... and "don't wrap" for pages that will have more than one image on top.

Advanced features like wrapping will be present in the "Articles" feature, which will be a full-blown articles system that gives you 100% control over the presentation.

Once that's ready, you'll be able to move your "Pages" over to your "Articles" if you want that functionality.

While Firefox may have many wonderful features, the vast majority of computer users use Microsoft products. If the goal of cubits is to become one of the top 1000 websites, it seems that incorporating features that will only work with Firefox is counterproductive.

I moved all my bookmarks over to Firefox from IE (they are in a folder in my bookmarks called "From Internet Explorer") over a year ago. Now I hafta remember how I did it! Okay, go to bookmarks, organize bookmark, on the top right of the library page pick import, the import wizard pops up and you can chose from IE. BTW, do this in Ff.

The big problem here is that I don't have IE installed on my computer because IE isn't available for Linux computers.

So, I have to boot my laptop up but my laptop is very old and doesn't run well. So, it's very difficult for me to program the site to work around all of IE's bugs.

I uploaded a picture from IE and it didn't work at first. I did get it to work by clicking upload new photo, it takes me to my pictures, I click on the picture I want and it acts like it is uploading but nothing shows up. I went back to my pictures and double click on the one I wanted, it opens up another page and I have the option to open it in IE, Paint etc. I clicked on open with IE and another page shows up, I click and copy the page address and close all the windows and I am back at the page without a picture. I click enter and it shows up in the box on the left hand side. So it can be done but it takes a lot of steps. I hope I explained that so that it can be understood.

Regarding a new name for Pages, it has to be a generic title (as someone else had mentioned) that would fit for everyone. "Special Features" or just "Features" does not comply. "Information Pages" might work, but I'm not entirely sure of that either.

I propose two further possibilities:

1) Have Dave auto format to put the name of the cubit in front of the word "Pages".
Thus, the "Pages" in the Wood Craft cubit would become "Wood Craft Pages".

2) down the road, perhaps we might be able to coax Dave to allow us to completely personalize the name ourselves. Being the ultimate solution, each of us could call the pages whatever we desire.

OK am I the only one that is having a devil of a time trying to upload photos into the pages? I click on upload photo. I choose my photo. And I wait... and I wait... and I wait. and then wait some more. Finally I select ALL of my page text and copy it to a clip board. Exit out of pages. Come back, paste in my stuff. And try the upload again. And I wait.... and I wait... and wait even more. Still not showing up for me to insert where I want it. So I do the copy the clip board thing again. Then I click out and come back in again. Sometimes 3 of the same photo are there. Sometimes not. But if I click to refresh the screen a whole bunch of the same photos are there, like i was an idiot for uploading them numerous times. grumbling grumbling grumbling

Needless to say, it's extremely frustrating trying to create a page this way. Perhaps I should wait for the articles. crying

I've ALWAYS used Firefox. At least for the past 8-10 years. I don't fire up IE on any of my machines, though it's there if some idiot site won't work right in Firefox. I remember Best Buy Rewards points had to be printed using IE. Just another reason I didn't like Best Buy. Don't get me started on them!

I've only done one so far, and that was the Welcome for the Artisan's Nook. I had the same problem, but I've been having serious timing out issues that have nothing to do with the site, but everything to do with my router. That could still be the problem in this case because I am on my desktop now. When I am on my hubby's laptop, even though it uses the same connection, I hardly ever have any photo loading or timing out issues. I've already got a call in to my computer dude, but he won't be in town for another week or so. So in the meantime, I am just winging it. crying

I kept getting a message tat said something like a photo had to already be there, but I was trying to upload the first one.

Will fiddle with it again soon.

OK folks. You'll be glad to know I won Dernit!

I had to go get on the laptop to do it, but I was NOT going to let this thing bug me all night long.

I still had a few issues with inserting photos, manipulating them where I wanted them, but all in all I'm pleased with the page!

Little bug on pages: When you delete a page and get the confirmation screen, there is a link that says to click to return to the Forums Control Panel. It should say that it returns you to the Pages Control Panel, which is where it actually does take you. Functionally, it's working... but the wrong words may confuse some folks.

Maybe I'm missing this.... I've poked around a bit to try to find it, but couldn't.

Why did the name of "Pages" change to "Featured Pages"? The info I had put in the pages section certainly aren't things I wanted to "feature"... those items are in the Articles area. I used my pages for things like the Community Guidelines... stuff that I didn't want responses on but merely wanted to post as informational.

What are others putting in pages that would warrant the title "Featured"? Just curious. Would also like suggestions on where to move the info I have there right now, since the title doesn't fit my content there anymore.

Thanks for any info!

Some people in this thread wanted something more descriptive than simply "Pages".

I went ahead and changed it back to Pages.

Right. In that case you should move all that content over to Articles and then disable the Pages feature.

Then refresh your front page a couple times and the links on the right-side will be updated.

Just copy and paste the body of the page into the new article and it will keep all your formatting intact.

Hmmm. I plan on putting a page with videos of my orchid set up and how I water. It's definitely going to be a feature (pretty amazing to see the contortions I go through!). Should I make a page and put a link on the welcome box?

I vote 'Articles', Kathy.
I think these will get much more exposure than 'Pages', but that's my opinion.

Can anyone tell me please if photos can be resized to put on pages. I have not figured that one out yet. I would like to put some smaller photos on a page.

Thank you.

I seem to be having trouble today with some of my Pages content. The links are sending to Cubits home page instead of to the source for topiary forms. I did finally get that one to work again. But I can't seem to get the one for Plant Sources to work. http://cubits.org/sedumandsempervivum/admin/features/pages/i...
I have recoded them the same way I redid the Page for How To Make Succulent Wreaths and Topiary. How did they lose their coding? They were working.

I notice a lot of folks are having a hard time deciding what Pages might be good for, especially now that there are Articles....I have the idea of using Pages in the future for a weekly newsletter and for the occasional contest or challenge. It would be easy to link to it in your right side info box so you can call it whatever you like and it'll be easy for folks to find.

If you were having some type a challenge, it would be a good place to put the relevant rules and info that would be easy to find and not lost in a forum somewhere. Also a good place to post winners :)

Yep, copy and paste and it's good to go. You can tweak it when it gets to the articles side.

I did a page the other day that had a whole bunch of photos. I hadn't no more than got the page finished, when the articles came available. I worried that the photos wouldn't transfer, but they did beautifully.

The great thing is that there is a photo uploader in the articles that works 1000 times better than in pages!

Dave:

I love the pages feature when you want to write an article but just keep it within your own cubit. I've been linking various pages to other sites though. Is there any way you can add a View count on the pages, like on the articles?

(If you would like to throw in some fancy fonts...that would be nice too! Just kidding! lol )

Kathy,

There is no viewcount ability for pages, but they are tracked through your traffic report. You should be able to pull that up and see its loads through that.

As for articles, you can keep them from appearing on the homepage simply by not selecting a thumbnail image. Protip. :)

I have written a few articles in my Plant Guilds cubit that weren't really "articles", so I just left off the thumbnail and that kept it so only my cubit's members could see it come up.

Can somebody tell me how to link a page to a page?

using [url][/url] doesn't work neither does using the edit button for adding a link.

To make a clickable word in Pages''
Highlight the word that you want to use as the link and click on the chain at the top of the box. copy and paste the address of the page you want to link to in there. blushing I forgot about that last night!
