We've competed in both AKC and ASFA lure coursing trials for several years. The dogs love it, and it's fun to watch them doing something they love.

Have you been to a trial, tell us about it. Do you run your dogs? Post photos, if you have any!

HI Cassie,

Most of the trials we go to are in Crown Point and Hobart, IN. I don't know how far that is for you. There is also a coursing club near Detroit, that has a lot of trials. My afghans really love it. Tell me about yours. It is so rare to find another person with afghans now adays!

I live a little north west of detroit, I live in between Lansing and grand rapids. I am ava's 4 th home she was a big brat Im not sure why her coat has a ways to go to be good I had to cut chnks out when i got her she was badly matted, (bummer) they were inbetween he toes and arm pits, under her ears. she wouldnt let us touch her for a long time, I felt very bad for her. But I think she know now she is here to stay and I squashed her bad habbits of bitting, niping , and 1/2 dozen other things she did that made me think she had no rules. lolol I cant wait to get another one I would love a cream/ red one. I also have a boxer but she is a hole nother story lool

I currently have 8! My oldest is Willow, in the picture in the header, she is a dual Ch. (AKC field Ch, and conformation Ch.), and an ASFA Field Ch. She is 9 years old, and the queen of the house.

Next is Wings, he is 8. He's a conformation CH., and has earned his SC (senior courser) title, but isn't competitive enough to finish his field championship.

Sammi will be 8 in May, she is a full sister to Willow from a repeat breeding. She broke her leg as a pup, and even with surgery, it didn't set right. When she is trotting away from you it is obvious in the way she throws her back foot. She does have some points toward her conformation Ch., and one leg of her JC title, but a scare on the coursing field ended any ambition of getting her FCh title.

Trouble will be 8 in Oct. He has his JC (Junior Courser) title, and is almost done with his ASFA FCh. title, we haven't coursed him in years, but someday I would like to finish him.

Hayley is 3. She is a conformation CH. and has her JC title. I tried coursing her once, and she was more interested in playing with the other dogs on the field than chasing the lure. She was dismissed, and I haven't tried again.

The last 3 are pups from a Hayley X Wings litter that were born last May.

Sissy, is my little girl from the litter. They cant' course until they're 1 year old, but I have a lot of hopes for her.

Tyler, is my pick male from the litter, He and Sissy have both been to some AKC and UKC shows, and have done well, so far!

Smash, is hopefully going to a new home in the coming months. He is very sweet, but one home didn't work out. A friend of mine is thinking of taking him.

There are some pictures of my 'kids' on the pet forum. I'll try to post a few more here when I get home.

They are all so beautiful, but man the hair lolol I cant imagine how you keep up lolol I have to change my clothes just to make dinner, we say ava hair is a condiment at our house. I hope Smash finds a good home. That is a cute name. What made you get a affy? I seen one on a walk only once and I stopped the guy and talked to him for a bit and that was it lol. So I read what I could and waited till I found one lolo. I know now I will always have one.

I got my first when I was in college. I was working for a boarding kennel, and looking for a dog. The manager, who's daughter bred afghans, had left a 4 year old male with him (she lived out of state), and asked him to find a home. Sambo came to live with me, that was over 30 years ago!! I've only been without an afghan for a couple of month's since then!

Right now I only have the pups coats to maintain. Everyone else is clipped down. If my friend doesn't take Smash, he will stay here. It would be nice if he had his own family, but, it's a big commitment. Her last afghan died last year, and she's not sure she's ready for another, yet. She babysits him once or twice a week, while I'm at work. So they're getting bonding time!

Once you fall in love with an afghan, I don't think any other breed will ever do!
