| Dear Annaz, the so called chocolate they sell as chocolate nowadays is disgusting stuff. I do not trust the people who make this sort of so called chocolate. Chocolate was first brought in to the UK before 1657 – then London's first chocolate house opened. The shop was called The Coffee Mill and Tobacco Roll. London's chocolate houses became the trendy meeting places for the elite. However it was at first used as a food flavoring and a Hot drink, or what we now call Hot Chocolate but without the mass of sugar that is now put in it! Then as chocolate became more popular people put more and more sugar in it until they made chocolate bars as we know them now. This took away the flavor of real chocolate, which is a pure joy. With the addition of white granulated sugar (cane sugar), more of that could be added faster and made more profit for the chocolate makers. It went on till it was as it is now a lot of sugar and very little chocolate. Except in certain countries like Belgium and Switzerland where the decline in taste was noticed and laws put into place that all chocolate was to be at least 70% or more cocoa butter. So if you were to taste Handmade Belgium chocolate which is law over there, it has a fantastic taste and would not taste anything like the stuff that is so called chocolate. As laws were not put into place all over the world, the stuff you get now so called chocolate is more like 70-80% white sugar then a bit of cocoa butter plus colorants and flavorings. That is why I call so called chocolate disgusting stuff, as I may as well go ut and buy a two pound bag of sugar add some cocoa powder and eat that! If you ever tasted the Handmade chocolate that is tested by law to make sure it is what it says it is, you would never eat the cheap chocolate bar they sell in the shops. Regards. Neil. |
