Glad it's not just me. I wasn't able to watch the whole thing; I caught tidbits and was totally underwhelmed. Did not like the commentary *at* *all*. Maybe we're burnt out on singing shows?

There are a lot of things wrong with the format. Too much talking and not enough singing, for one thing. We have to watch interminable auditions with people who aren't chosen -- one of those for each audition of a chosen candidate. I shouldn't have to watch a show where 50% of the auditions are unsuccessful. It's a waste of time. And the whole point system is flawed. Both of Kelly's contestants ended up at the bottom, but they weren't necessarily the worst. It probably just means that Kelly's more generous with her points than the other judges, who must be giving low scores to everyone else's contestants. And the secret point system is infuriating. I want to see the scores these judges are awarding. I want to see who's being stingy.
Also, I couldn't warm up to the other three "pros." The southern woman is a twanger and the guys have no personality.
A couple of times I thought I was looking at Linda Ronstadt when they showed Kelly in passing. They never looked alike to me before, but now that both have gained weight, they do look alike.

John Legend has a nice distinctive voice, but I honestly cringed when I heard that Robin Thicke was going to be one of the singer/judges. He's horrible! I remember when he appeared on Idol a few seasons back. I sat there with my mouth open, wondering how in blazes he ever got a recording contract!

I didn't take it off the Tivo queue, so last night I watched again for lack of anything better to do. Most of the singers are competent, but a couple are way beyond good. I did enjoy most of the duets and just ff'd through the nonsensical commentary. Robin Thicke is intolerable and only John Legend offers truly constructive criticism. The worst singer - imho - got cut. As with the Voice, I wondered how she got there in the first place.

Poor Kelly; her two contestants were at the bottom of the board and had to sing against each other. The girl, Jordin (I think) was cut and she didn't take it well. Jason, her other contestant, opens up and really sings when he's all alone, singing for his life, but when he's dueting with Kelly, you can barely hear him and wonder why she picked him in the first place. I don't think she's a good coach, either; she keeps picking lame songs that don't showcase voices. Like her or not, Jennifer picked the best of all the contestants. Unless he falls down and breaks his head, J. Rome is the sure winner.

I watched the last show today and I have to say, I'm more and more impressed with Kelly Clarkson. (Still don't think she was a very good coach in the beginning, though.) Her one and only contestant did really well, but it's Kelly that I've come to appreciate. She has a powerful voice and a magnetic personality. She's also lost over 30 pounds, turned herself blond and she's stunning.

I wouldn't watch either if it weren't for Tivo. Most of the show is drivel, so if you speed though just to hear the duets, it doesn't take long at all.
