Season 13 starts tonight (Wednesday, January 15th) with two hours of auditions.

I'm not looking forward to seeing Jennifer Lopez again, but the other judges should be good.

He was great, but JLo was as idiotic as always.

I was glad to see Jillian Jensen again. She was so good on The X Factor before Demi ruined her chances with the bad makeover and the choice of bad songs. I hope she can do better on Idol.

I thought the show was great fun. At least the judges are getting along (famously, it appears). I don't miss the idiotic Nikki lobbing barbs at Mariah every night - at all. There were some very good singers, but a lot that were quite ordinary that the judges enthusiastically sent on to Hollywood. Cannon fodder, I presume.

After watching Steven Tyler lusting after the teenage girls and making inappropriate remarks to them and about them, it's refreshing to hear Harry Connick, Jr., say it was creepy to hear a teenage girl singing "Paris (Ooh La La)."

I was wrong about Jillian Jensen. She's the girl on Demi's team who did nothing but cry. The one I liked (and the one who was ruined by Demi's makeover and choice of songs) was Jennel Garcia. I wish she would try out for American Idol.

How cute was it to see a second-generation American Idol contestant? I was amazed to see that Nikki McKibbin's old enough to have a son auditioning for the show.

I think I saw most of the show, but I did get bored with much of it. Once again, I didn't hear many standouts. I did love the kid who was four when his mom was on the first season. And, yes, it's a reminder of just how much time has gone by. My GD was in high school; now she's married and expecting her third child. Dear god, just how OLD am I?!

I haven't heard any great voices yet either, but Candice Glover was the only person who stood out for me during last year's audition phase. I looked back at last year's posts and found that I was also interested in Lazaro, but more because of his story than his voice.

For the last three years I've noticed that a lot of contestants define themselves as "worship leaders." I don't think I've ever heard the term used anywhere else. Is it something new? Is it a southern thing?

I think it won out over "Bible thumpers". Hilarious!

My early favorite is Majesty Rose. She has some serious strength and control in her voice, even when she's singing quietly. Even when her volume dropped dramatically, I could still understand every word. There were a couple of other standouts last night, but they lost control as soon as they reached the quieter passages and they either swallowed the words or went off key.

JLo continues to annoy me. "Goosies" was bad enough, but this year she has added something new: She's already commented at least three times on a contestant's "nasally tone." The word is nasal, doofus! "Nasally" is an adverb.

He's not annoying me yet, but I can see that he could be annoying in time. He's not very subtle, is he? He repeated his joke about the dog peeing on him too many times, for instance. Once would have been funnier.

I thought he was good at first, but then he started with the silly jokes. It was not at all funny when he stood up in front of Keith and JLo acting like a contestant, I thought it was kind of mean humor. Angry

Majesty's still my favorite contestant. I really appreciate someone who doesn't think every note has to be belted out at full force.

That airplane hangar round was fierce. I know it saved the producers a lot of money on hotel accommodations, but why can't they practice more discernment earlier? If the ones who were being tested were the contestants that didn't earn unanimous approval by the judges, maybe three yeses during the audition phase should be required for the Hollywood golden ticket.

At least it wasn't as bad as the thing they do on America's Got Talent, when large numbers of contestants are rejected as soon as they arrive, without even getting a chance to perform a second time.

I'm looking forward to the groups, my favorite round of the year. It's full of melodrama, but it's important to judge how these contestants hold up under pressure and unforeseen circumstances.

The contestants are too nice this year. Not enough melodrama on group night! Hilarious!

There are so many good contestants this season. They were supposed to cut half of them during the group round, but they only cut about one-fourth. Next week is going to be brutal. We're sure to lose some great performers.

I'm glad I'm not a judge, it is going to be tough to choose with so many good singers. Confused Shrug!

Is it just me or was last night's show a total bore? Thumbs down

So boring! Not to mention irritating because I hate the fakeouts. If people are in the top 30, just tell them they are. Don't go into the song and dance about how difficult the decision was. Don't drag it out until the person feels totally depressed and demoralized. I wish just one of the judges would be straight with the contestants.

As usual, some seemingly good contestants were dumped and some seemingly mediocre ones went through to the top 30, but we don't see every performance the judges see, so it isn't fair to criticize them for that, I suppose.

I wonder if some of the dumped ones are so good that they would have a chance of winning, but not this year because the competition's too stiff. They can try again next year, but the ones that are included in the top 30 can't come back. I suspect that's why the judges eliminated Candice Glover so early on her first two tries. After the producers decided to sabotage the WGWG's last season, she had a genuine chance of winning, whereas she had no chance of beating Phillip Phillips and Scotty McCreery in the earlier seasons.

How could the stupid judges cut Savion Wright, Munfarid Zaidi, and David Oliver Willis when they're so much better than half the guys that did get through to the top 15? I hope all of them come back next season.

I hope they get picked up by a label and move on! Could not believe they cut Savion. Sad

On a positive note, Adam will make an appearance! Doubt we'll hear him sing, but it's better than nothing. Hilarious!
