There will be a special preview of season 11 tonight after the Closing Ceremony of the Summer Olympics. It's supposed to air at 10:30 on NBC and is scheduled as a half-hour program, but NBC has called it "a special one-hour preview," so I'm not sure whether the time is correct. At any rate, I'll tape the closing ceremony and whatever comes after it.
I'm anxious for the new season to begin because this summer has been a vast wasteland as far as reality TV shows are concerned. SYTYCD has been ruined irrevocably, I grew tired of the Bachelor/Bachelorette series years ago, and I don't care about any of the "Real Housewives." I think Master Chef is the only reality show I've watched this summer.
I watched the first episode just to see Simon, but I skipped the rest. I don't like some of the variety acts. I don't ever want to see someone juggling chainsaws or chewing razor blades.
Things are brightening up. Season 2 of RuPaul's Drag Race All-Stars premiered last night, Season 16 of Project Runway will start next month, and Toddlers & Tiaras just returned to television after a 3-year hiatus. I probably won't watch the latter show, but I love reading the snarky recaps on TrashTalkTV.com.
For some reason, I'm just not enjoying the show this season as much as I did in the past. It might not have anything to do with the show. There have been other things in my life that require more attention than before.
I do like the two new coaches. Both are doing a great job with their teams, and their enthusiasm makes Blake and Adam look like sleepwalkers. Contrary to my expectations, Miley doesn't bother me at all. Unfortunately, she'll be gone next season, when Gwen Stefani will come back, so we'll have that unnecessary emphasis on appearance again. I don't remember her giving anyone any good advice on vocals while she was meddling with their hair, makeup, and clothing.
I'm glad to see you post zuzu. I have been remiss myself. I have been watching and I am not seeing anything that jumps out at me. AT this point I'm just glad that there isn't any hip-hop or rap!!!! Some of the younger ones seem to be holding their own. I think I will reserve judgement until they start doing the live shows.
This show's reliance on Twitter is becoming ridiculous. Next Monday's show will have live performances by all of the members of each team. Viewers will vote on Twitter in real time for two artists on each team to remain on the show, and the coaches will choose one more for each team. All 12 of these contestants will be announced on that same show -- before the show even begins on the West Coast. This means that only the votes of viewers in the Eastern and Central time zones will be reliable. Viewers in the Pacific and Mountain zones will be allowed to vote, but they'll have to vote before seeing the performances. How reiable could those votes be?
I wish they would just let the coaches pick the top 12, the way they pick the winners of the earlier two rounds. They could pick two from their team and then either pick a third from their own team or steal someone from another team that isn't among that coach's top two.
I just watched my tape of the last round of knockouts and couldn't understand why the girls on Blake's team were wearing such hideously unflattering clothes during their performances. Then I remembered that Gwen Stefani is Blake's girlfriend now and probably acted as their wardrobe coach. Their ridiculous getups reminded me of the horrible outfits she chose for those poor girls on American Idol one year.
Hoping the twitter voting was only because of the election results being on TV tonight, and they wanted to get the top 12 picked, and not the start of a new trend. For the most part I was happy with the choices, though, not overly fond of Brendan or Darby, would have chosen someone else for both those teams.
My computer crashed on the 4th and I only got it back today, so I didn't see your post, Deb, but I agree about Darby. Brendan's okay, but Darby's intonation and delivery are just weird. Singers that deliberately mispronounce the words in a song really annoy me.
