| In my early years as a homemaker I was really hooked on every new gadget that came down the pike. If it even hinted that it would work, I'd go and purchase it, only to be disappointed in its performance or that it didn't last. In effect, I was wasting TONS of our hard-earned money by chasing my own 'cleaning rainbows' In recent years society has become more environmentally conscious, and thankfully, so have I. It's been a wonder to see what marketing ideas are now 'new and improved'. It's almost like the cleaning world has come full circle from the early 1800s to today. You've heard it and seen it. Cleaners have baking soda added. Vinegar is one of the number one glass cleaners. And borax is a laundry additive. That's why when I say that my #1 go to cleaning aid is a microfiber cloth, I feel like I fit right in with the 'new' old trends. Used with just water, they shine porcelain and stainless steel faucet fixtures. Used with a vinegar and water solution they shine glass and mirrors like new. Just dampen one with a tiny bit of water, and dusting is a breeze, and better yet, the dust stays in the cloth. It doesn't get poofed into the air. Once again, dampen a microfiber cloth and clean stove tops, counter tops, doorjambs, washable walls ... anything. And, they can be washed and air-dried to use again and again. No more paper towels in the landfill! You can find microfiber cloths in almost any automotive section of the nearest big box store. I found a package of 24 bright yellow ones for a bit over $12 at Sam's Club. I keep six in each bathroom and six under the kitchen sink. Just remember to never, ever use a liquid softener in the wash water, or to put them in the dryer with a dryer sheet. Fabric softeners contain a 'wax' that will cling to the fibers and take several washings to remove. The first time you use a microfiber cloth that has accidentally been washed or dried with softener, you'll know it by the cloudy film that's left on your sparkly mirror! I hope you'll try using them.
