OK where does everyone get their JMs? We have picked up a couple at Metro Maples. I like their selection and the fact that they are local, so not much shock when getting them. I also like picking out the tree I get so I can get one with the shape that I like. They are not cheep but good plants seldom are.
davidsans is not on the east coast - land of lincoln - springfield, illinios
i also buy from topiary gardens in Syracuse, NY - great variety and trees are grafted and grown by the owner so are very hardy and not flown in from the "left coast":)
At wha's recommendation I purchased a couple trees from Topiary Gardens recently and I was totally impressed with the service and the trees that I received.
no just kidding that yours looks bigger:) mine have all leafed out and look great - still in the garage at the moment - probably another couple weeks before they get planted - next week they come out and stay under the deck if the weather is warm enough - cold here today around 40 with showers - there are 8 in there from her, 2 from last fall and 6 this spring and i still have another 4 conifers coming in from her.
I ordered Kamagata, Emerald Lace, Viridis, and Red Dragon. They arrived yesterday but for some reason the postal carrier decided not to leave them at my doorstep so I had to run to the Post Office to pick them up this morning. I was worried about the extra night in a box but they all seem to have made the cross country trip unscathed. She does an excellent job packing them.
i think her packing may be the best i have seen - nice choices - i've looked a kamagata a few times - surprised you could not find a larger viridis locally on sale at some point - got red dragon last year and it seems to like its home - looking forward to seeing pictures - thx
I do see a lot of viridis around here but I haven't been impressed with the branching or the grafts on any of them and they've generally been about twice as much as I paid for the one I got from Diana. Granted, they are bigger at the local nurseries but I can be patient. Anyway, I figured as long as I was placing an order for the others I might as well add on the viridis.
I'm told that Red Dragon does well out here so I'm excited to see for myself.
#1's are one year old grafts and are usually somewhere around 1 foot tall, sometimes shorter, sometimes taller, in four inch pots. #2 are two year old grafts and are usually around 12-24 inches and are also in four inch pots. some of these are limited.

Give me a land of boughs in leaf, A land of trees that stand; Where trees are fallen there is grief; I love no leafless land.
hey wha
i looked at topiary gardens. some really nice photos and a great selection, but they're not any bigger than these. they're just in a bigger pot, these are all ready to be put in gallons and are on average 10.00 cheaper. i did see a few shirasawanum that i NEED to get.

cody you should check her out - and the trees are fuller and taller than advertised, they also have good sized calipers - i purchased and orange dream last year that was 4' tall when it arrived, others have been 2 to 3' for the most part - dwarfs are usually 12" - 16" inches - the komanchi hime i posted on the green spring maples thread very big and grew unbelievably over the past year - it is almost as big as a koto maru i bought for $$ at greers now.
