I'm not getting old, I'm 'maturing'
I've had a bag of instant masa harina for about six months. The other day, I thought of making some tortillas.
I mixed the tortilla recipe according to the instructions on the bag, got out my tortilla press and thought all was going well.
NO, it DIDN'T.
The mix was too dry so I added about 3 more TBSP water to it but I couldn't get the balls of mixture into equal sizes and when I used the press, the tortillas were not round; more oval shaped.
I thought I'd use them anyway, so I put them in a hot cast iron skillet with no oil or grease of course.
They browned well but were so bland. I had wished I had added some salt to the masa harina but the recipe didn't call for it.
If anyone makes tortillas, do you add salt to the mix or not?

Every so often I want to try to make tortillas from scratch but haven't been brave enough:lol:

A recipe I found that is based on regular flour called for 1tsp of salt for 4 c. of flour. The recipe had over 300 great reviews.

I would say give some salt a try. You're taste buds are telling you its missing salt so it couldn't hurt.
