Kat, I was thinking about you just the other day. My DH and I have decided to find a small acreage (2-5 acres) and build. I was telling him about your beautiful back splash in your bar area and how I would love to do something like that.
You sure have a good memory as it was a long while ago that I posted those pics on DG! I think it's a great time to build as if it's anything like it is in OK as it is here, you're going to get the best of trades looking for work. Are land prices down like they are here? 2-5 acres is really nice...can you imagine how much beautiful Coleus you can grow? hehe
Brinda...I think it was you that gave me the idea of mixing Oxalis and Coleus together! (or was it Caladiums?)
Start collecting all those broken pieces of anything you can find for that backsplash!
Oh, every time I see your name or post I think of that back splash. LOL And you were nice enough to email me the progress and instructions on how your friend did it. Gosh, that must have been a couple years ago but I still have that email as I had great dreams back then (still do, they're just getting closer to being fulfilled). I'm calling my best friend this weekend to tell her to keep an eye out for back splash pieces, she's a huge fan of beads and anything mosaic.
We've not hit much of a housing slump here compared to many places in the US. I would say that housing might have dropped a little but the price of building and the price of land really hasn't. And really, we are so fortunate compared to the rest of the country where land prices are bringing premium. Our premium is so much less here than everywhere else. DH and I are looking at three different 5 acre plots that are priced from $51,500.00 to $65,000.00. But keep in mind that these have nothing at all to offer in the way of amenities. We would have to put in a well and septic. But would not have to pay for electric or phone to be run as it's already close enough. My ideal size lot would be about 2 or 2.5 acres but we just can't find it in this area.
Enough of that...
Yes, I do believe you & I had a conversation about Oxalis and how well they go with Coleus and Caladiums. I love all of them and have such a beautiful garden every year, with only the three of them. Everyone loves that garden.
I'm off to look at some of your mouth-watering recipes. Have a beautiful weekend!
I was at my local veggie place today and came across some decent Pickling cukes. So tomorrow I'm going to make some Dill Pickes and possible tackle making a Spinach noodle Lasagna...I better get myself to bed!
I am so excited! Don and I are going to Mexico this month for a few days. We're going to a resort in a place called Puerto Morelos which is about 25 miles outside of Cancun. I was looking up things around the area on trip advisor and this just popped out at me.
The classes are about 6-12 people and the class lasts from about 10am-3pm. I think it's going to be fun and educational as I'm really lacking when it comes to Mexican quisine. You also get the chance to sit down and eat the day's cooking! Can't wait!
