Sandi came into my life when she was 7 weeks old. It just so happened that 2 kittens came into my life right about then as well. Lucky was 8 weeks old and Monty was 3 and a half weeks old. They weren't very interested at first. The three of them just settled into growing up. Then, all of a sudden out of the blue, Lucky took a liking to Sandi. Lucky is an unusual cat to begin with. He fetches a small ball better than either of the dogs will. He says "Hi". He loves Sandi to bits. Lucky follows Sandi all over the house. He has to be rubbing on her and licking her. Sandi...well...she pretends to just tolerate his affections. I know better though, I see her looking for him. She'll shuffle over to make room for him on the chair. She loves him too.

Klick came into my life at the tender age of 5 weeks. Pepper, the cat, had been here for a while already but was still very much kitten. When I brought Klick home Pepper looked at her like she might be food. He was captivated by this tiny, wobbly creature. Klick was wobbly because she had spent her entire life thus far living in the bunk of a tractor trailer, travelling all over the US and Canada. She didn't have her land legs yet!!
It didn't take Klick long to learn that this was her cat. She'd run through the house dragging a belt and Pepper would chase it like kittens will do. They'd have a ball. Wrestling matches came next. Hide and seek with Pepper doing the hiding and Klick not doing much seeking, more like getting ambushed when she least expects it. Nobody ever gets hurt. They were made for each other.

Every dog should have a cat. They'll form a relationship that will last their entire lives. I don't know how it happens but I know for a fact that it does. Why these two cats? I don't know. I have 7 cats and none of the others even acknowledge that the dogs exist. It can't be forced or coerced. It just happens.
When it does it is the sweetest thing! |
