| We lost our sweet golden boy on Monday, after a battle with leukemia and hemangiosarcoma. We made the difficult decision to let him go after he just was not recuperating from surgery to remove his spleen. We were fortunate enough to have Whisper with us for almost 10 years. He came to live with us when he was 2 1/2; his entire life before then had been in the show ring. He didn't know how to play or chase bunnies, or do any fun doggie things. Our older golden Greta showed him the ropes. Whisper was a great obedience dog; he was a registered therapy dog and we volunteered at a local hospital for several years. He was convinced that humans had laps and hands so he could rest his head in their lap, and get pet. Once he got brave enough to jump up, he enjoyed sitting in my swing with me where we could see the entire garden. If I sat on the floor, he came over immediately to sit in my lap. He loved his fuzzy toys, and always greeted us with one! My boy was just the sweetest dog (although not terribly bright) and was never grumpy or caused trouble. He only wanted to be loved--it was not difficult to provide that! It is hard to imagine another dog as sweet and affectionate as Whisper, and he will be forever in our hearts. |
