I'm sorry that I have only been in and out of my cubit for so long!

I had a very sad experience with my paint mare that ended with her being put down by the vet a couple of weeks ago after I had medicated and worked with her for nine weeks. The vet saw her every few days (lots of times on his own and not even billing us for the visits) and for a while we thought she would overcome the laminitis (extremely swollen feet) that occurred from an unknown cause. She must have had a stroke as well during the illness. My other horse is quite lonesome now, but it is going to be a while before I think about another horse.

On a much, much happier note, my first and likely only grandbaby was born yesterday. There was a bit of stress involved in the birth too, but mother and child (and my younger son, the daddy) are doing well after an emergency C-section.

As soon as I get caught up with house, yard, and ranch chores, I will be back to entering recipes and responding to your c-mails more promptly.

Here's baby Gentry Rose and her parents yesterday on the day of her birth!

Pat, I'm so sorry to hear about your horse. Just as other pets are family, they are too. My heart goes out to you.

What a cute little one...congrats!!

Thanks, Alan. I have lost very special dogs and cats over the years too, and it is never easy, especially when an animal is in its prime as my mare, Gypsy, was.

We think our baby girl is pretty cute too, and we hope within a few weeks to be on the road to where she lives up North. Her mom and dad will not be happy that I posted their photos taken when they had been without much sleep for three days! Whistling

We have just returned from spending ten days with our new granddaughter and her parents. Gentry is the most adorable and the smartest baby ever born. Lovey dubby It was good to get away from everything that needed to be done here at home, though now it is all staring me in the face. Sticking tongue out

We traveled by Amtrak from Texas to Pennsylvania, a three day trip each way. I will definitely drive from here on when we travel. Whistling I don't even want to hear or see a train again! Thumbs down

Thanks, Maridell. Gentry is the grandchild we have awaited for so long and the baby her parents feared they would never have. I wish Pennsylvania were much closer to Texas! Photos my DDIL sent yesterday show how much our baby has changed in just the week since we left.

I showed my DDIL how to navigate in Cubits while I was there, so perhaps when she has a little time Hilarious! , she will join us here. I left them quite a few frozen meals, the recipes for which are all posted here. My son said they have already had some yummy lasagna from the freezer. I picked up containers with red lids at Wal-Mart large enough to hold a good sized meal, labeled the contents with scotch tape and marker, and placed them all on two shelves in the freezer where they could easily be found.

We had to replace our freezer last spring, and the new one is still neat and well-organized. I love knowing what is in there and where to reach to find it. I mean I can even find the little bags of chopped green peppers and black olives! The rest of my house may be a mess, but I am proud of the freezer! I did not have time to reorganize their freezer completely (I did have permission to do so!), but at least I have the new stuff in plain sight and made some room by cooking up a couple of roasts that had been lost down toward the bottom. That new baby required a LOT of holding, and even with both grandmas there, I had to do my share!

I have lots of new recipes that I will be adding over the next few months, and I hope the rest of you will be adding some too. With the holidays coming up soon, we are thinking about our traditional favorites, of course, but I always like to add a new dish or two to the menu.

Rolling on the floor laughing at the ....eeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggg

That's what I used to say when I looked in our previous freezer and also part of what I said when I discovered it had quit and most of the contents were ruined for human consumption. About twenty big bags of homegrown blackberries had dripped juice down from the top shelf and then made a puddle on the garage floor when I opened the freezer door.

I thought about just leaving home, but instead I pulled the big green garbage container into the garage and started filling it. All I kept was meat the ranch cats could eat and a few well-sealed items that were not damaged by being thawed, like nuts, flour, etc.

The new freezer is a big white box in the sunroom Sticking tongue out , but I use it more and can easily check to see if it is still running. I'll put an ivy on top of it when the youngest cat is past the plant-shredding stage. Whistling We had a spot in the kitchen set aside for a freezer initially, but I had the builder put cabinets there instead since the ancient freezer we had at the time was avocado colored. It died, of course, a few months after the house was finished. Its replacement, the one that quit last spring, did not last very long at all.

The thought of the freezer dieing is not a pleasant one...but how pretty your garage floor must have been...purple? Sorry, I could not resist - not so funny when these things happen.

Our deep freeze is a smaller sized one and is in the laundry room in the basement - no other place to put it. We have had a half a cow in it before and it was DIFFICULT finding things...had to unload to get to things in the bottom. I did try to layer with a variety of things on each layer so I would not have to go digging. Worked to some extent.

Nope, garage floor was not pretty! Add some ice cream in a couple of different flavors along with raw meat juices to the purple, and it was more than nasty looking. Sticking tongue out
