I live in the Willlamette Valley in the state of Oregon. Our weather is fairly temperate. We do not have snow cover in winter but do get down to 18°F on occasion and any snow we get is only around for a few days. Winter time is our wet season and the rains run on into spring. My soil type is clay, so I have to amend my soil to improve drainage. I find the raised beds to work very well in the growing challenges I face.
We do have a drought season which runs for approximately 2 months in summer. Temperatures can run 90 to 100°F, with lower humidity, during July/Aug. At that time I need to do supplemental watering of the semp beds and use shade cloth to protect them during the drought time.
