I'd like to share some of the ways that you do make your work space user friendly.
Here's a couple things that I've done; I write the thread number on the spool and on the bobbin so I can easily find the "matches" when changing colors on the machine.
attached a pair of scissors. Also the blue tape in the photo is a note saying that that knob is the stitch length, (which I couldn't ever remember which knob was which, design or length)
Please share what have you've done!
So happy that Cubits is fine.
Edited to removed the idea of a magnet attached to the front of the machine; which is a Bad idea for those machines with computer parts!

Hi Jo....
I almost missed your thread!!

Helpful hints, all of them. I just got a new sewing machine, and I feel like I'm learning all over again. Have to keep the book that came with it right by my side.

Maybe it's a good time for me to follow your hints. Thanks.

If I come up with other ideas, I'll let you know. I've been sewing for 50 years, and this new machine is taking me forever to learn...could be it's a Brother and I've been using Singers. Could also be that it's computerized, and I'm not!!

It's for sure y'all will be the first to know of any wonderful things that come from it.

I've been a Singer girl all my life until I got this Husqvana. I took the first class that was given by the dealer but havent' gone back for the second class. It doesn't have any computer parts, or I'd probably still be trying to figure out how to plug it in.
My biggest challenge w/this machine is seeing the icons on the dash! I may end up drawing out larger ones and pasteing them on..driving me crazy. I don't change the stitch because I can't see what to change it to!!

I took all this time because I decided to get a picture of this machine. It's really inexpensive, but does so much more than my old one. I have a serger and another machine that is specifically for thick fabrics, but if I can ever get beyond the 2nd page of the book, I think I'm going to like this little basic one better than the others.

Any suggestions for fast learning??

I like your idea about labeling things. The little icons drive me crazy.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WARNING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PLEASE be very careful about using a MAGNET near your machine if it is computerized in any way!!!! You can wipe out it's memory in nothing flat if you put magnets on the machine. I suggest you get one of those magnets that have adhesive on the back and attatch it to your table or any other surface nearby. But NOT on the machine.....

Barb..Wow, thanks, I hadn't thought of that. I'm sure that a lot of machines would be in jeopardy.

Sharon, my advice is to "play"...best way to learn what that machine will do......
take a few squares of fabric, a piece of batting scrap, and make a little sandwich.....try out every "design" stitch.....keep close by for reference.....those stitches are never quite the same as the little picture on the machine, and this way you have an example to look at when trying to decide what stitch you want to use.....I have four of these little sandwiches, with different sizes of stitches...the size # written with "pigma" pen next to the stitch, also did them in different colors thread, variegated, etc....so I could see how they would look...................I find this very helpful when using the stitches for quilting....

also keep a bunch of these little "design" boards handy......great for piecing blocks !!

this is the "back" side of a quilt block, stitched with a few of those lovely designer stitches...they are just sew very much fun.....the reason I upgraded my machine....

Thanks, Barb....love that, Thunder....great quilt, too.

I'm out of here for a few days for a much needed rest, plus a 50th HS reunion....whoohoooooo, can't believe I've lived this long. And for those of you who ever followed my Aunt Bett stories on DG, I'm going right back home to my mountains....about 7 hours away so I don't get to go there very often. And yes, I'll check out Aunt Bett's yard, Barb...see if all those flowers I planted are still there!

You all have a good week....let's hope I'll meet you right here when I return.

Sharon, I went to my 55th this spring! Lots of those "old people" I didn't recognise!
Wish I could get a new machine. I haven't had time to try mine since I moved, don't know if it'll still sew, or not!

Didn't know you'd moved, Audrey....thought you were still in Tennessee! Hope you are enjoying your new world.

I enjoyed the 50th reunion....didn't know a soul, but most knew me. I think it was because I was the one who hadn't been back in 40 years, so they all knew everybody else. By process of elimination I was the only stranger so they narrowed it down to me. It was fun!
