| I just made a dress and jacket for a wedding I'm going to on Saturday. The dress is lined because the outer fabric was a little too thin for me. It had a side zipper that is too stiff and doesn't lay right in the seam. Wish I knew how to get around that. The jacket is embroidered taffeta. I wish I could go back and do things differently with it. First, I will never use fusible interfacing on an embroidered cloth, or any cloth with deep texture. It shrank the fabric slightly and gave it a little wrinkly look. Second, I wish I put an interlining in the rest of the jacket. It's too lightweight and floppy, not enough structure. It doesn't lay right compared with the front and front facing parts that have the interfacing. Third, I would put a real jacket hem in there. The pattern said to just sew the lining to the shell so that the seam is exactly at the bottom. My lining is burnt orange and I didn't want it to be seen hanging down if I was off by 1/4 of an inch or something, so I put the trim around the hem, which allowed me to tack the lining up about 1/2 inch. If I have time I'm going to sew a bag to go wtih the jacket. Harper ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
