| http://cubits.org/sisistahs/thread/view/64068/?offset=240 It's close to that Turkey Time, and again this year, Kel and I will be celebrating it by ourselves. It won't be quiet with a good game on tv and watching the cats chasing after pecans!! Question? Do you know of anyone in your family who detests the holiday season? My MIL turns into an ogress during the holidays. Strange she'd put up the tree faithfully every year, but she'd make Ebeneezer and Grinch look amateurs. I could understand her behaving this way since Leslie (mid. brother) died before Thanksgiving 5 years ago, but Kel and his older brother said, she has always been this way. Anyway, I don't have to put up with her shenanigans anymore since it will be another year I won't go over for all holiday dinners. It would be SIL's 3rd year. Lord says to love all, and to keep forgiving. Sorry Lord, somehow my head can't take any more excrements On a better note.... I feel much better today. Have been suffering from a cold..forgive me if I failed to tell y'all that. Drinking lots of hot fluids help get rid of all that mucus. ![]() |

| Jaye, a few of the best years of my life were years that we were "estranged" from in laws.... understand totally there girl...MIL's can be terrible. so very Happy to know my hubs adores my Momma glad you are feeling better.... |

| My daughter, Lisa, is coming and bringing her sister, Lynn's sone and his family. I have the ham, Lisa's bringing the turkey. Patty's going to make cheesy potatoes and green been casserole. I'm making 2 punkin pies, and fresh cranberry sauce, and they're bringing canned. I'll make dressing and the gravy. We'll have candied yams. I bought a GE roaster to cook tne ham and turkey, 'cause my oven burns things up! I have a small rotisserie oven that I bake the pies in. Sounds like a lot of work, to me! Uuuummmmm good!!!! |

| I'm headed to Mom's for a week, she's having her Tgiving the Sunday after, normal fare on the list: Roast Turkey Oyster & Regular Dressing Mashed Potatoes & Gravy Sweet Potato Casserole Green Beans Corn Pudding Broccoli Casserole Broccoli and Bacon Salad Coleslaw Raw Veggies & Dips Spinach Salad Angel Food Cake Pumpkin Pie Mince Pie Bread/Rolls Fresh Butter from the Amish neighbors... (Yumm) and whatever else shows up on the tables... She starts a couple days ahead and get things together, then we help with the rest. It sounds like a lot of food, but there isn't usually much leftover... No wonder we only have a Soup & Salad Buffet for Christmas.. |
| Sounds good! We'll have leftovers! But everyone will be satisfied! |
| We have to have leftovers. The grands heading back to college after dinner would be soooo disappointed. |
| Thanks for the new room Jaye, sorry to hear your fighting a cold. Hope it is better soon! We just bought a turkey fryer, and and a large container of peanut oil. Were going to try and fry a turkey for the first time. Sure hope we like it? We went to Outback for dinner, and we had baby back ribs, salad, and a dessert called chocolate thunder from down under. Walnut fudge brownie, served with ice cream, and chocolate syrup! Yum!!! |

| mmmmmmmmm this Saturday we're having a "Bob special" - His Hawaiian Pork dish. He got the recipe from his dad. We've got a few people coming over, and Jaye - we Just Might have Pumpkin Pie for you I never thought of it being the same weekend as your Thanksgiving! How very nice - I'll celebrate with you |

| Our Thanksgiving will be on Sat. after. It always is so that we can all be together the entire day at our daughters farm. We've built a few new traditions, daughter grows the turkey and it's always at least 35 lbs., I take gingerbread cookies, icing & decors so the kids can decorate them. After dinner we go to a nearby tree farm for Christmas trees cut fresh. |
| Karen, that sounds like so much fun! My tree is up, and partially decorated. I'm just not able to do much at a time. Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Susan, happy Sat. to you and Bob! |

| anyone for the Hawaiian Pork recipe? HAWAIIAN PORK Ingredients Batter - 2 eggs ¼ cup flour Salt & pepper to taste Batter mix for meat may be doubled if necessary. 2 chicken bouillon cubes 1 cup boiling water ½ to ¾ of 1 medium can pineapple tidbits (save juice) 4 stalks of celery, sliced 2 green peppers, diced 1 small onion, if desired 2 pkgs of pork steak or 1 pkg meaty pork chops 3 tbsp cornstarch 3 tbsp soya sauce ½ cup brown sugar ½ cup vinegar Use medium heat Cut meat into cubes or chunks of ½ to 1 inch in size. | Sound good. I used to use pineapple and sweet/sour saucing with many veggies and meat (when I ate meat) over rice or crisp noodles, the same way. It is a good flavor. I just don't eat anything deep fried anymore, but do like the battered pork or chicken is dishes like this. Now, I use shrimp. Do you ever make hot/sour soup? I got pretty good at it for a while but there is some (secret) spice that I haven't figured out. Woman on the eastbound train ...........................................Je Suis Désolé. | All this talk of food.... sigh... Wouldn't it be nice if we could make the rounds for Thanksgiving, and in real time.. not virtual? Goodness, we will all have to sign up for the Biggest Loser except for our vegetarian Jamie here. Kathy Kiz, can you share your corn pudding recipe? Audrey, don't do too much please. Your family has so much to be thankful for, this Thanksgiving. Karen, I think I'll bake cookies tomorrow. Been craving for peanut butter and sugar cookies!! Jamie, no 2 Chinese cook alike!! I have to taste the hot and sour soup that you like, maybe then I might be able to figure that secret spice!! Could be the chef's sweat? Kidding, sister. Changed our menu, again. It will be untraditional Corned Beef, steamed veges, baked sweet potato fries, and sausage corn bread dressing. It might change again, depending on how I'm feeling. Susan's bringing the dessert btw !!! Will talk more tomorrow sistahs. |

| Jaye - now how did you know that I intended to bring Rum fruit cake? |
| Owww... I'll have a slice of that Rum fruit cake please! Oh, Jaye, it is amazing how many calories a vegetarian can consume! I just avoid fats and frying. I never said I avoided carbs did I? Well, with Hot/Sour soup, I've played around with different mixes and proportions of star anise, fennel, Szechwan pepper, cassia , garlic, ginger and various vinegars. One thing I have not used is lily buds. Regardless, I can make it 'pretty good', but I just can't get the same zing as my favorite local restaurant. I have asked them but when it comes to recipe secrets, their English goes straight to...I dunno', what's that place we go in a handbasket? Here's their menu. My favs are the Crystal Shrimp and the hot/sour soup. They are very good, ingedients are cooked just right and (unlike some of the places I've gone) quite recognizable! I've gone there almost as long as they've owned it. One waitress is very generous with the plum wine! Yum! Not fancy, just good food and friendly service: http://www.bamboohousechineserestaurant.com/home.nxg Woman on the eastbound train ...........................................Je Suis Désolé. | Morning all! Love prospers when a fault is forgiven, but dwelling on it separates close friends. |
| Susan, I'd kiss the feet that brought me rum fruit cake!! Jamie, the 2 Ts were my staple when I was on a health kick!! Impossible to find tempehs and fresh tofus around here. Unless I order tempehs online. I tend to drop in some fresh bean sprouts in the bowl first, then top the bowl with the soup. Luckily, my fav. Chinese restaurant has a raw bar for the Mongolian grill, so there are lots of raw veges to choose from. Morning Miss Anita Slept well last night. Almost downed a whole bottle of cough syrup! Throat's not sore this morning, so I know Lola must have slept well too! |

| Tabor City, NC... Jamie. Even the health stores in the closest big city of Myrtle Beach, doesn't carry them. |
