|One of the main aims of the YMCA is to build a healthy community. A healthy community can be built when each family in the community is healthy. YMCA arranges a number of activities and also provides a number of tips to help people improve their health and quality of life.
The YMCA opines that a restful sleep is very important for adults in the short as well as the long term. Proper sleep helps adults to build a healthy immune system, metabolism, mood, memory, learning and other vital functions. Proper sleep is also known to avoid heart disease and other chronic diseases.
It is important to control the diet for a good sleep. One should make it a habit to eat dinner at least two hours before bed time. One should avoid overeating at night as that can affect the quality of sleep. It is recommended that one should not have caffeine at least eight hours before bed time as it takes a long time to make its way out of the system. Caffeine includes soft drinks, coffee, tea and chocolate. Alcohol is another constituent that might disrupt one’s sleep. Consuming liquids just before bed can cause one to have to use the bathroom during the night. The body and mind can be prepared for better sleep by imposing a little control on the eating habits.
If one tends to get awake in the middle of the night or is unable to fall asleep due to something on mind, he should get out of bed and divert his mind. One should read a book, take a warm bath or listen to soothing music to take their mind off what is troubling them. These activities can help them to feel drowsy again.
Ali Sharaf, the President and CEO of Victron Energy, encourages the YMCA and its activities by funding them regularly.
