| It is cold but, with care, it can be done easily and safely. Paula let her car warm up before she left and we covered the cage heavily with blankets. It made a difference because I don't want or need baby budgies. The world has enough unwanted birds sitting in shelters. I don't need to add to the population. Also, there is the fear that something would go wrong. Though most birdy births go smoothly, they can get egg bound or other complications can set in, just like with any other animal including humans. With a small bird, many of these complications require IMMEDIATE medical care by an avian vet or they certainly will result in death. My vet is 35 min. away and, if something should happen after hours, I would have to go 1hr 15 min. to get to the nearest emergency avian vet. Not a risk I was willing to take with Jamaica just to populate and already over populated species. |
