| Look at you cute people -- ordering and designing hats. I'm having intermittent Internet connection problems, so that's why I've been so scarce. |

| I signed up for AT&T U-Verse because the salesman assured me I couldn't live without it. When the tech came to install it and told me all it would entail, however, I realized it was going to be a hectic major deal and it wouldn't improve my life whatsoever. So I told him to forget it, but in the meantime AT&T had disconnected my regular DSL. That took a couple of days to straighten out, and it's been going out sporadically ever since the second tech came out here. I think they're punishing me for not getting U-Verse. |
| No, At&T sucks. I have them too (regular DSL) and it goes out frequently. The frustation is that there is nobody to call because any of the numbers you dial take you to another automated function or put you on semi-infinite hold until you finally get to a human in the Phillipines, India, or Mexico with no power to assist. Emailing them (if/when you can) gets a canned response as well. I am seriously thinking of switching to a company where a human answers the phone. What happened to anti-trust in this country anyway???.....seems like AT&T went through a divestiture in the 80s...that appears to have dissolved altogether now. | The thing that bothers me the most is when I call them because I'm having connectivity problems, and the voice mail tells me I can get help by going to ATT.com. Shut up! If I could get there, I wouldn't be calling. |
| Yep! I've yelled at it for the same reason!!!! Woman on the eastbound train ...........................................Je Suis Désolé. (also a mule lovin', Charley huggin' girl) |

| Yes, I always start swearing when the message about putting me on hold starts out: "We value our customers...." They value them, but not enough to hire more operators. The worst thing of all was the appointment block they gave me for the DSL tech: from 8:00 to 8:00! A 12-hour block! I naturally had to stay up all night, just in case the guy got there at 8:00 in the morning. No way a doorbell would wake me up at that ridiculous hour after I'd been working until 5:00. By the time the guy arrived at 4:30 in the afternoon, I was punch drunk. |
| I know.....one of my charities gives me a 12 hour window too...that's okay if it is something I can set on the porch but a pick-up next week is for furniture and when I asked for a tighter window it was like I asked the impossible!...well apparently I did because the answer was that they couldn't tell where the drivers were going to be on their schedule...and they can't call me during the day on thst either......EGAD!...NOT AT ALL???? They called me to ask if I had anything. Sheesh! Then they don't have the budget AT&T does either. Woman on the eastbound train ...........................................Je Suis Désolé. | I had to stay right by the phone the entire time because they said the tech would call first and not come if no one answered. It was a triple-digit day and I couldn't even go outside to water the garden. Of course, that's what I get for living partly in the Dark Ages. I have a computer, but I don't have a cell phone. |
| I don't have a cell either...(or cable TV), it's one of the reasons I stay with AT&T. I can keep my monthly expense at a minimum. I love the way people stare at 'cha blankly Woman on the eastbound train ...........................................Je Suis Désolé. (also a mule lovin', Charley huggin' girl) |

| I'm used to that stare. I haven't had a car for the last 30 years. It's positively un-American! |

| That's right!...just think of what the insurance companies lose on you! Woman on the eastbound train ...........................................Je Suis Désolé. (also a mule lovin', Charley huggin' girl) |

| Coincidentally, insurance is one of the main reasons I gave up my car. Thirty years ago, I was the single parent of a toddler. I didn't have much money in those days, so I had to choose between health insurance for the two of us or a car because I couldn't afford both. I expected to miss the car, but I never have. In fact, I felt a great sense of relief right away, just knowing that my paycheck was my own -- the whole thing, with nothing held in reserve to cover unforeseen repairs, not to mention gas, registration fees, insurance, and scheduled maintenance. (Besides, I was a terrible driver: way too cautious. The highways are better off without drivers like me.) |

| I don't want to get rid of any of them though. 2 serve my personal purposes well...one of those is a Navajo 4x4 capable (that I ordered new and so it has a standard tranny and sport package....you can hardly even GET real standard transmissions anymore) and it is good for picking up larger things at the hardwares and garden centers, and getting through snow. The one I drive most is a Prelude also a standard and has a special suspension package and spoiler so it handles great in traffic. I ordered that one new the year before they quit making them and went to more 'family oriented' models. They have become somewhat scarce and increased in value. It's amazing how often people have asked if I would sell it. The 3rd one, I can't get rid of even though I hardly drive it. It is a '67 1/2 Camaro SS that grandpa bought new for grandma (without consulting with her first) and she hated it so when she died, I bought it out of her estate (fairly inexpensively) with all of the original sales paperwork and maintenance records with about 23K original miles. It is highly unusual to find one of those un-modified. Gives me a fall-back position in the right marketplace. All I have done with it is maintain the mechanicals, belts, hoses, new exhaust and tires. None of these cars have ever been without garages and are not now...so...? BTW...every year I call my agent and ask him what it would cost to insure one of these if I bought it used...he sighs and reduces my rate a cupla' smidgens. | 67 camero I am a pseudo cell head. My true luv gave me one to carry when I go on walkabouts at night cuz he's convinced without one I will be murdered. (I think the plan is that if I am being murdered I say "Hold that thought while I call 911") Anyhoo one day I got a letter that said there was no longer service for analog phones so it hasn't worked for 3 or 4 years but the murderers don't know that. |
