Here's another desperate attempt to keep the cubit alive. I'll just throw out some topics and hope someone answers. I missed Dahlianut's birthday on May 17th, so happy birthday, Kiddo. I'm enjoying all of the season finales of my favorite TV shows and looking forward with great anticipation to the new season of So You Think You Can Dance. I'm glad Trump renounced his silly bid for the presidency, but is there any humor left in the campaign now? A man who was growing 5,000 different varieties of roses developed a clotting disorder and can't be around thorns anymore, so he's selling all of his plants. I've bought dozens and dozens so far -- huge and vigorous plants, most of which aren't available anywhere else anymore -- and I'm paying rock-bottom prices for them. I almost feel guilty about reaping the silver lining of his misfortune, but I'm sort of used to it after receiving a huge contract bump after 9/11. I finally managed to trap the two remaining unspayed feral cats in my household and get them fixed. No more worries about surprise litters of kittens. It's such a relief! In a few months I'll be running out of cigarettes. Seneca Smokeshop called and left me a message several months ago to say they had found a private carrier to deliver cartons. I'll have to call them back and get the details. It would be so wrenching to suddenly have to pay the going rate for cigarettes. I got my sixth sting of the season yesterday. This time it was a wasp and he got me on my palm. I picked something up without looking and he was sitting on it and got scared, I guess. My whole hand swelled up and I looked like I was wearing a catcher's mitt. Can't think of anything else at the moment, so the ball's in your court now.
|

That's an interesting twist with the Seneca Smoke shop. I wonder how that would work. Surely it would be very expensive? Another random topic: What's considered the best brand name for steel toe shoes? I've always liked Red Wing but they are now making my feet hurt. I have flat feet and wear a men's EE width (EEE fits too but the heel is too loose). Any recommendations?

If it were very expensive, it wouldn't be worth it. I haven't called them for the details yet, but I'll let you know. Sorry, I know nothing about steel toe shoes. I avoid all shoes as much as possible.

How 'bout the topic of kitties? We just adopted two more kitties. These will be our last since our city has a five-cat limit. We bought them from Petsmart but they came from a shelter. Sadly, they aren't in the best of health. I'll be taking them to the vet next week but in the meantime.... One is a dark gray (kinda looks like a Russian blue). But he's starved. Ribs and hips sticking out. Has very little muscle on his legs so all you see is bones. He won't eat dry food so we bought him cans of Iams kitten (we normally feed Iams kitten dry). He'll eat it but not much. He isn't playful at all. He's weak. He doesn't even have enough muscle in his back legs to jump up on the sofa even though he's 3 months old. He tries though. What can I do to help him eat and gain weight? Should I try to get him to play with string or something or should I wait until he's healthier? His eyes are clear, he uses the litterbox okay, and meows loudly when he wants something. Any advice (other than to get him to vet which I will next week)? Is there a liquid nutritional supplement I can give them? The other kitty is an orange medium hair. They're brothers but they look nothing alike. This kitty is also small but not as starved as his brother. He's playful and alert---just a little boney. He eats everything. I think he has ear mites. What's a good medicine for mites? He was puking and had diarrhea for the first three days but that is getting better today. Any advice is welcome. We're giving them lots of TLC and I think they'll grow up to be beautiful and very spoiled kitties. Will post pictures when I take them.

Oh, you're so lucky to have kittens. All of my cats are past the kitten stage and I really miss that time in their life. The vet can give you a nutritional supplement and ear mite medicine. Vets actually have a shot now for ear mites. It's much more effective and less messy. When we were short on cash, we always used mineral oil or even Wesson oil for mites. Just squeeze a little bit of it into the ears with an eye dropper and then fold the ear flaps closed and massage the ears so that the oil spreads around. The cat will start shaking his head vigorously as soon as you let go and he'll get the oil all over the place and all over you. That's why the shots are better. When I've had cats with bad appetites, I've given them a dish of canned evaporated milk. It might give them diarrhea, but I use it in dire cases, when the alternative is starvation or dehydration. Most cats love it and it's an easy way to give them extra calories. My kittens have never liked Iams kitten food. Try something cheaper. Most kittens love Friskies Buffet canned food. In extreme cases, I give finicky cats canned people tuna, but only the kind packed in water. Oil-packed tuna is hard on their kidneys. Try putting a little people tuna on top of his Iams kitten food. He might eat it then. For now, just let the skinny one rest as much as possible. His brother will encourage him to play when he's healthy enough. Do make a fuss over him and give him tons of affection, though. It seems to make a difference in sick kittens, strengthening their will to live.

Thanks. I'll try the oil if DH doesn't bring home medicine. I really like the shot idea for the mites. I'll ask the vet about it. Are ear mites catchy? My other kitties seem to be scratching their ears more now (or am I just being paranoid?) The gray (which my DH is starting to call Shadow) is eating much better today. He likes canned cat food. After he's healthier, I'll slowly change him to what everyone else is eating. As promised, I took some photos this morning. The first two are of the unnamed Orange. So far, I have the names Gizmo, Jasper and Rascal. Any suggestions? The next photo is Shadow. And the last photo has four of our kitties in it. It shows a little how thin Shadow is. For comparison, the other two kitties are less than 10 months old. The new kitties are three months. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Adorable kitties! Poor Shadow has bat ears because his face is so skinny, but he has a beautiful coat and he doesn't look sick. I don't know whether mites are catching, but it seems to me that only my black cats and gray cats get mites. I never see the others scratching their ears. Do mites see in technicolor or are cats of other colors more tolerant of pain and irritation? Your orange baby is beautiful. My favorite kind of cat. I always have at least three or four fluffy orange cats. All three of your names sound good to me. He reminds me of my Marmalade, a feral kitten my neighbors trapped for me when he was a few weeks old. He was terrified of me for months. He thought he had found a good hiding spot on top of the shutters under the roof of the sunporch and was greatly surprised one night when I not only saw him, but also took a picture of him. ![]()

Marmalade is beautiful! I would have snatched him right up How long did it take for you to "tame" him? Did he ever become a very affectionate house cat? The kittens are slowly gaining weight and getting healthier. Their vet appointment is tomorrow. I still don't have a name for the orange. Right now I'm considering Cujo because he's such a terror! I'm still open for suggestions.

He's very affectionate with me, but he's scared of everyone else on earth. I rescued nine kittens in all from that feral community. About five of the ferals are still scared of other people, and two of those actually are still scared of me too, except when I'm feeding them. The other four love everybody on earth. I don't know what made the difference. Cujo's a great name. I've named orange cats Amber, Lumpia, Mango, Chutney, Marmaduke, and Marmalade because of their color. I actually have two orange cats named Tiger right now. It's not a name I would choose, but they came here from other places already named. One came as a tiny ball of fluff and was so adorable that I couldn't help squealing "Look at you!" every time I saw him. So his official name is Tiger, but he thinks his name is Look at You.

awwww kitties awwww. zuzu I'm a HUMUNGOUS So You Think You Can Dance fan! This summer I watch the Canuck competition on Mon & Tue and then US on Wed & Thurs. You would think I would be a better dancer after all that, wouldn't you? On a smoking topic: my tru luv quit a couple of months ago and is now getting pleasantly plump. He's quite good natured about it though so methinks he will stick to his goal. He is also being a very userfriendly non-smoker (probably cuz he knows I'd smack him if he wasn't

Dahlia! How good of you to drop by. Come join the SYTYCD chat in the American Idol cubit. The former owners appear to have abandoned the cubit, so I'm using it to discuss my favorite competition shows. I wish I could see the Canadian shows. http://cubits.org/americanidol/thread/view/57437/
