Ah, the old one is considered a 'lost film', made in 1918. The one you probably saw was filmed in 2000 & was at least nominated for several film awards. I'm not much impressed by the still shots of the actress who plays Lily Bart... who is supposed to be an absolute stunner & this actress is merely pretty. Then there was a TV movie made of it, staring Charlie Chaplin's daughter Geraldine as Lily Bart... I can't find a picture of her in the role.

Do you like period movies in general?

It is much like Austen in being about 'mannered society', so all very backstabby & cruel.
I have little confidence in any enterprise or business or investment that promises dividends only after the death of the stockholders.
