they must nest in my Hygrangeas, that's where I saw one. Usually hang out around the well house. DH keeps light in there in winter.

That little fledgling is precious! I had a little fledgling Cardinal on the brick wall this morning but couldn't get out there in time to snap his picture. Baby birds are just so cute.

We've got a few fledgling birds around lately too. Below is a photo I took earlier today, An adult Brown Thrasher perched in a tree singing, and a Juvenile on the ground searching for food. The little one hasn't grown his long tail feathers yet.

It's been a while since I have visited... work has kept me busy.

Lin... I love that shot of the hawk with dinner! yes it is sad for the cardinal, but as you say it is part of the circle of life.

Kathy... I love that shot of the house wren with the lily! Wonderful!

My osprey babies are all grown up now, and all will begin migrating south soon.

Here is the last photo I could get of one of the babies.

Here is one of two Green Herons... there is story with it.

The Squabble
You've heard of "king of the hill"? This was a version of that, called "top bird of the rock"! Apparently, this is THE rock from which to fish! "Green Legs" (left), came along and tried to knock off "Yellow Legs" (right), and a bit of beak fencing took place. Then there was a stare-off. In the end, "Green Legs" walked away, and "Yellow Legs" remained the reigning GH.

Oh my goodness Karen, those are awesome pic's of the Osprey family! They are so clear and crisp showing great detail ... you are a great photographer! I wish I had taken lessons when I was younger.

I got this shot of a juvenile Osprey in the nest in the Sam's Club parking lot a couple of weeks ago. He was hollering, I'm assuming for mama who was nowhere in sight. Thumb of 2010-08-10/plantladylin/09a68b

Wow, I've never seen a Green Heron ... they are beautiful! Love the story of their squabble over fishing location rights!

Hi Lin... nice one of your juvie Osprey!

I watched a whole group of Green Herons all summer... from Mom sitting on eggs all the way through to fledging. They are quite characters!

Here's a link (I hope) to my Green Heron set on Flickr... http://www.flickr.com/photos/va_wild_rose/sets/7215762458650...

Here is one of my juvies... showing his stuff!

Thanks for sharing your Flickr link Karen. I loved that slide show ... those babies are so precious! What fun it must be watching the progress as they mature. They are really gorgeous Heron's!

Need to stay out of the way too. I've had thrm get pretty close. I tell if they run into me and I catchem I'm going to take your pictures. I love the little mean things.

Wow. Now I feel really lucky cause I have the ruby throats all summer here!! I leave dead branches here and there so they can rest up. They come the day the first quince flower opens. Right now they are enjoying the trumpet vines and the tall yellow species daylily clumps throughout the garden (not sure if they are multifloras, citrinas, or altissimas).

I'm sure I'd see more hummers if I'd plant more to attract them ... lost many plants to our extreme cold last winter and didn't re-plant. It's been a busy spring and summer with lots of family stuff so I didn't get around to new plantings in the yard.

Well .. can't stay on the computer, we've needed rain for so long and are sure getting nice rain today but unfortunately severe weather as well. We are under Tornado watches/warnings, a funnel cloud was spotted just south of us in New Smyrna Beach and heading north, so I need to find the cat and make sure I'm near an interior room.

... I'll be back later!

Yes, I'm hoping those tornados go away there , Lin...and that only the rain stays around. Hate those tornados! I never got to know my paternal grandmother because she was killed in an F4 tornado when he was about ten years old. So I got to hear the stories about her for many years...he loved her so much the grief and memories never seemed to fade very much. Always wished I could have know that woman, who inspired such love.
