I used to knit almost everything
Left it for years and returned to knitting a few years ago.
Maybe we can share information about sources for yarns.
I found this website for these beautiful silk yarns. The silk is a village industry in India.Women gather the ends of the warps in the Sari factories and spin it into vibrant yarns.

I think a yarn coop would be great thing to do. I think there would be enough of us to give him some great sales if he would do it Especially with Smileys. I just can't afford to buy 50.00 worth at a time, even with the bargains he has.
Knit Picks is my new favorite. They have an outstanding variety of colors. I have ordered several times and am very satisfied with the products, the prices and the service. One VERY kewl service they offer is Wish List. Shop and browse; enter the items on the Wish List and e-mail it to your family. Two of my daughters used this list to gift me with an amazing amount of goodies for Christmas. Daughter #1 remarked that it was so much easier for her to choose gifts for me. They spoiled me wonderfully !!! http://www.knitpicks.com/knitting.cfm
