Knitting forum: Circular knitting needles with exchangeable tips?

I'm working on a sweater and using circular needles. My only set of 4 mm was 60 cm long and I really needed 80 to be more comfortable knitting. Stopped by my favourite yarn store and found all the circulars they now have are the ones where you buy the cord and then the screw-on tips. Two languages of instructions on them, neither of which was at all recognizable though I could make my way through English, French or German.
I was knitting along when the needle tip unscrewed itself, dropping stitches all over the place. The air was a bit blue for awhile, but I've managed, with finer needles and a fine crochet hook to get them all picked up, some of the down as far as 4 rows. And then I noticed a little pin that should be used to help tighten the needle tip.
What I'm wondering is whether they will really stay on once I've tightened them with this little pin or whether this is likely to be an ongoing problem.
Anyone out there who has experience with these needles?
|Don't know if anyone ever answered Ann but I have a set of these and I love them. You do need to tighten with the little bar that gets inserted into the shaft. But I have never had one come loose.
Anyone else out there still knitting?
