WARM UP: During yoga practice the body will be in positions that require flexibility and strength. Warming and stretching all parts of the body is of upmost importance for successful movement into yoga postures with limited discomfort or injury. The warm up also aids in gradual increase in blood flow and bringing oxygen to the muscles. COOL DOWN: It is important to complete yoga practice with a cool down to slow the body gently rather than abruptly. Lactic acid builds up in over-worked muscles, and this causes stiffness when the body starts to move again. Stretching and movement help to release the lactic acid back into the blood stream. A cool down period also helps the body re-acclimate to normal levels allowing the muscles to relax, and the blood to move back out of the extremities which can aid in limiting lightheadedness. |
