Thought I would share a couple of 'a-HA' moments I had re: these two species. Here's a photo of my greenhouse - you can see that there's only about 4' difference in height from the bench to the hanging pots in the middle. However, the middle gets very very high light and more air circulation. ![]() For a number of years my H. glabra produced the odd flower...just one...maybe once or twice. Also, I had two H. pottsii that had never bloomed. They lived on the benches in my greenhouse (we recently put a new cover on the greenhouse and the light is much brighter! At the top of the house is an air circulation vent where there is a difference of about 1 foot where one side overlaps the other). On a whim put a hanger on the H. glabra and hung it from the top support rail where a number of other pots lived....and the blooming has not stopped all summer!!! Yesterday I counted 17 umbels either forming or blooming. ![]() About 3 weeks ago I did the same to the two H. pottsii ...I hung them higher from that same support rail. They now have blooms forming and one is even blooming... ![]() Other hoyas are doing very well back down on the benches: H. fitchii, H. paulshirleyi,H. subcalva, kenejiana are a few that are in constant bloom as well with the lower light. I am amazed at the difference in growth/blooming to just change into a higher light!!! ![]() Leap. The net will appear. |

This is really nice Carol! Congrats |

Thanks, Mitzi. Ted Green tells me constantly 'more light/sun'. The only sacrifice is the quality of the leaves, themselves... H. glabra traditionally puts out HUGE leaves (to gather more light), so my glabra leaves are large...but in NO way the monsters they can be!!!! Leap. The net will appear. |

Both very beautiful. Lovely leaves as well. If they like higher light, I wonder why not hang them outside. Is it because of rain that have have to stay inside? |

Can't get higher light outside .... and pottsii like to grow dry in the winter which is our rainy time. Some hoyas I will grow in the greenhouse because outdoors they don't look as nice...but little by little they are all going Out! Leap. The net will appear. |
