This picture is my great grandmother Charlotte Jewitt.
Charlotte was born in Hessle, East Yorkshire, England on 22 May 1842. She was one of 5 surviving children.
She was 35 when she married my great grandfather, William Kellington and also 8 months pregnant with my grandfather, Alfred William!! There was only one other child born to the marriage, Arthur George.

Several of Charlottes neices and nephews and their descendants have crossed the 'pond' to North America.

What a wonderful picture of her! She looks to be about 50? I know they must have aged earlier than we do nowadays..... Is that grey hair? I understand they still had very, very long hair in those days, but she doesn't seem to have much that's pinned up.

Beautiful gown, too ^_^

I'm not sure how old she was - I think about 35 just before she married and her hair was coiled on the back of her head. She was actually very dark haired, I'm supposed to look very like her - Grandad always called me Chalty which was her nickname, short for Charlotte.

This is her aged 82 with my mother as a young girl.

Just love those clothes, Carol. I was born in the wrong era.
