You remembered right--I did post on the DG genealogy forum about Ancestry keeping your tree even if your membership's not renewed (I was ecrane3 over there). You should still be able to log in and look at the tree, but you wouldn't be able to add records to people or anything like that. All the info is stored on their website though, if you want it on your computer without having to go to their website, then the easiest thing is to get a program like Family Tree Maker which can sync up with your info from Ancestry but save it on your computer. Or if it's just a few pages/records that need saving then you can "print" things to a pdf file even if you don't have the full Acrobat on your computer--all I have on my home computer is the Acrobat reader and I've done that many times.
