No, they don't just kill bunnies. Second only to high rise windows for killing endangered song birds. Sad

Carol, if this thread is for good overall information, talks about calcium, magnesium and cardboard seem right in line. I surely appreciate your disseminating any knowledge, so maybe just don't aim your suggestions at Jay....unless you have a chocolate egg for her. Hilarious! Hilarious!

Oh, I've been using the milk & soda for some time, OJ too and haven't noticed any fungus anywhere. Would it be visible?

They were using it in little plastic pots... I don't think it'd work too well for inside plants. I did try a couple of tablespoons of sugar in 2/5 gallons of water for my tomato seedlings & one of them promptly turned red, like fall. So back to water & fish emulsion. The sugar on the dirt didn't seem to have much effect in terms of earthworms. So I'll wait til there are plants in the beds before I do that again. Big Grin

I put all of the stuff carole talked about in a bucket and make a shortened version of compost tea and give them that. I supplement the 'maters with sprays of fish emulsion and also drenches.

I do manure tea... we've got an endless supply of that! Hilarious! Tons of compost in the soil. Every few years I scatter a handful of sulfur in each bed. And now adding a few wood chips every year for long term fertility. Things seem to grow pretty well as long as the weather cooperates, but who doesn't want to pump up the brix in their veggies? Drooling

I sometimes think that I like to play more with the dirt than the plants. The microherd and friends fascinate me. Blinking

I've been 'advising' a newbie gardener (when I can get a word in sledgewise) & he has a very mechanical approach to soil... get it tested, throw chemicals at it. Which we know can easily turn soil into dirt... sterile. He was shocked, stunned & seriously taken aback when I told him, "Soil is ALIVE. You've got to befriend & nurture it; feed it & it'll feed you."
He said no other 'consultant' had told him that. Rolling my eyes. Hard to know if that's true or he just wasn't listening. Whistling

OH, just everybody... at the nursery, the soil lab, the university... even a couple of other actual gardeners. I am using the term extremely loosely, just like calling myself an 'advisor'. Catch this... he actually thinks he can keep bugs out of his greenhouse. I tried to tell him to give that idea up, but he was busy talking, so I don't think he heard me. Hilarious!

He planted his asparagus upsidedown... I walked in & all the dried, shriveled roots were sticking up in the air as he was waving his hand at them saying, "I don't know when these are going to come up." Uh... Rolling on the floor laughing I'll give him credit, he has a good sense of humor.

To top it off, when we went in the house & told his wife, she said she knew that, but was waiting for him to figure it out. Whoop-whoop.... Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing That tells you something right there. She doesn't waste her time trying to set him straight.

I agree They're both lovely people, but oh my! Rolling on the floor laughing I always come away laughing at his bounding enthusiasm & utter cluelessness. Like a big goofy lab or something. Hilarious!
