Hi, I'm Zuzu and I know my fellow Californians and I need a place to discuss the joys and sorrows of living in this state. I've lived in Sonoma County for 25 years after moving up here from the Bay Area in search of a safer and less hectic lifestyle. I succeeded in finding it here. |
I have lived in my present home in the Bay Area since '84. Hubby just retired in Jan. so we travel more and are currently looking for a place with just a bit more gardening and breathing room. Our married son lives in the Bay Area as well, married daughter and our 2 grand kids live in northern Calif., in the Shasta area. View my NGA garden blog! My Etsy store. I live in Long Beach and have been here for 20 years, but in Calif. my whole life...(previously from L.A. environs). Am owned by a 20 lb. cat, and my addictions are roses, daylilies, and old fashioned annuals/perennials. I do everything Zuzu tells me to do. |

hiya Californios, I'm don, and old (really, really old) DG contributor from back in the days when life was simple and before the invention of the fart prevention pill. Ed McMahon is dead, Paris Hilton is still a cocktail party unto herself, and our exalted Austrian (Brown Shirt) governor still can't pronounce the name of the state. So things change, some don't, yet aren't soiled diapers still just poopy pants? Greetings to all, malice toward herbicides, and hopefully we will all find ways of keeping and stewarding our common ground with joy and respect. best, don Still of questionable Sanity |

...the paramedics are here with the oxygen...and the paddles. Can I take the plastic off the sofa now ? ![]() |

LOL, Well, Hi all, I'm Annmarie...a long name so just call me AnjL . I live in CA because I am still stuck in the Bay Area. Dont get me wrong, I love CA and all the sites etc, I just dont like living here ![]() I am recently retired, and now have plenty of time to garden and photograph and paint and build miniatures. so thats what I do with my time now LOL |
Yo Miguel! Please don't let anyone from St. Jude's put paddles anywhere but your front, thoracic region. The "Mea Culpa" paddle action is just way too Da Vinci Code for any of us to keep a straight face if the rescue ends up on UTube....lol. How are amigo? best, don Still of questionable Sanity |

Ah, Don, he of the questionable sanity, has arrived, as abstruse as ever. Annmarie, so glad you found us. Still hoping to meet you sometime before you escape to the Northwest. Maybe at Regan's next sale if you haven't fled by then. |
LOL Oh Regans will probably have many more sales before I get to flee ![]() I do need to head over there today to gets some plants for my DGS mini garden and take lots of photos for my plant database LOL! I havent been there in a while, so will get to say hi to Dan and the gang ![]() I still need to make a trip out to Annies Annuals, funny, when there is a place relatively near me....it seldomly gets seen. But for nurseries all up and down WA & OR I have seen most of them! LOL! Dragonfly Nursery was just beautiful! |

LOL...I think we all know each other already...deja vu. I'm Sherry...lived a bunch of places, been in Fallbrook for around 27-28 years now but still have gypsy feet and still thinking of leaving. Retired, working harder than ever and growing salvias...lots of salvias.... |
Here, Sherry. Go to town. http://cubits.org/Califliving/forums/view/salvias/ |

Finally found the CA gang. I'm KaperC on DG, plain ol' KathleenC here, live just close to Sherry in Bonsall, a teeny-tiny community presently being threatened by the dreaded 'developers.' We like native plants, but we do have some other drought tolerant types here and there. |
Hi, Kathleen, so glad you made the trek over here. I'm looking forward to many of your photos. |

Hi, I think know most of you - some maybe not. It's me Dove (aka Dovey) Bred, born & raised in Southern California, I have been banished to Ohio for the past three years... I committed no sin save love to warrant this banishment. Since moving here I have been frozen 3 times (they call it winter). Dang I miss California! I will always be a Californian no matter where I dwell. I miss the entire West Coast, I miss the stupid drivers who don't know how to operate a vehicle in the rain, I miss the way they talk, the way they dress and I miss their egocentric logic. Dude, I miss they way they use the word "dude" to refer to everything... men, women, emotions and questions . I miss being able to have an orange tree in my back garden, You can not grow an orange here, no lemons and no limes, zero zip on the citrus. I miss fruits and vegetables that don't have to travel across country and then display their wilty greenness in my produce section at the Giant Eagle grocery store. At twice the price, twice I tell you, for wilty lettuce, dry carrots and soft onions. I fear if I say in Ohio much longer it will suck every last ounce of California Cool there may be left in me. I'm 56 I don't have much cool to spare, seriously a lot got used up when I was 19. Then there was a decade when I was 40 and I was extraordinarily cool. There is not much reserved for a time such as this I'm probably at least one season behind when it comes to bohemian style... Save me or soon there will be nothing left of me but a huge mound of L.L. Bean sweaters and smart wool socks. Dove |

Dovey!!! Okay, now the gang's all here. California misses you right back, Lady. Here's hoping that traveling man you married will be traveling back here next. You'll like this new site, Dove. No irrational rules, no authoritarian admins playing favorites and abusing their power, etc., etc. I'm still excited about the photos, which are worlds better than the DG system. Those thumbnails were too small and if you enlarged them after you had started typing a response, you lost everything you had typed. |

Zuzu, Thanks for letting me know you were you all got off to, it was like playing hide-and-seek and while I was counting everyone ditched me. It's good to see so many familiar names. I will soon be digging up my special roses and moving them (I know not were, highly unlikely it will be California) the rest of the roses will stay behind and I hope the next person treats them with love. About those irrational rules etc. does that mean I won't be scolded like a child if I something is friggin amazing? Cuz that sucked. |
You will never be scolded like a child, although I might chide someone like an adult -- but only for being mean and certainly not for saying "friggin." Feel free to use whatever friggin euphemisms you like. Actually, I don't even have to chide people because I have a "ban" button to use for the thoroughly obnoxious. Free membership means we're more likely to attract trolls. |

Ban buttons rock *L* |

Dovey, you never lose the Californian inside. I've tried living everywhere else and I'm still Ca inside...I love California, I'm proud of California, I love that we're nuts here. I did Iowa twice for a year at a time...I know how you've felt for the last 3 years. We may leave, but it would only be to Washington again or Oregon. I like the Pacific Rim frame of mind. Sounds like you'll be on the move again...digging those roses. Did I mention that I love California? Did I mention how happy I am that zuzu and sue set up this forum? I expect it to be rather loose...I posted pics of metal weathervane towers that Jer made (on a garden art forum), one of which is a witch and it must have offended the cubit owner since she deleted the pic of the witch. Did I mention that I love California?? |
