I just found out about a great bargain I'm getting on my garbage bill. I used to pay over $90 every three months. A few months ago, I received my bill and it was $34.28. I naturally assumed they had switched over to monthly billing, but the next bill didn't arrive for another three months. A new company got the contract and that's our new rate: $34.28 for 3 months.

Furthermore, I just called them to see what it would cost to get a second green can for yard waste and they said there's no charge for a second green can.

I had heard that the garbage companies were making a lot of money on our recyclables and yard waste now that we're separating our garbage into three different cans, but I never expected them to share that income with us by charging us less.

How decent of them!

All the more freed up to buy goodies with....we finally started setting aside our recyclables (rather than letting the trash service have them) and taking them into the place where Jer goes to buy steel / iron,etc...scrap metal. Our son used to take in the Ca RV stuff, but would let it pile up way too long, so Jer started taking it with him when he goes to buy metal..not bad, last time was $53. Down here they can put out 10 trash cans of green waste. Ours gets shredded/ mulched and we always have a lot to be shredded and I always want all the mulch I can get.

I have this theory that chocolate slows down the aging process.... It may not be true, but do I dare take the chance?

I would like some seeds. Dwarf is good. I have been pulling out all of my tall ones except the one I got from Louise that grows 12ft tall.

I have no idea if it will grow here but I can try. Right now all I have is some red one that is kinda like a weed.

It's beautiful, but don't get emotional: You'll have a bigger garden in a better location and you'll be able to create dozens of vignettes like this one.

That's a gorgeous copper-colored iris, by the way.

That iris is Rustler, a favorite, already potted up!
