Every morning before he leaves for work, my husband takes a walk around the garden and pond. Yesterday he ran into two very healthy-looking coyotes. This is the third time in as many weeks we've seen them during the day. Normally, we just hear them at night.
Anyone else seeing them out and about during the day? I wonder what is bringing them down from the hills. We know they drink from our pond at night, especially during the hot months, but this is unusual.
They've been bothering our neighbors dogs, too. Don't know why they are coming around, as they look very healthy, so must be getting good food. Our neighbors (across the road) are on the edge of the nature reserve and say they hear them much closer to their house at night now.
Before we put the fencing up, we'd have them right up at the doors occasionally. I learned about coyotes the first morning after we'd moved down here. I do believe that if I'd known, I wouldn't have moved here. The people in the house before us had left a hen and her 10 chicks, running wild. When I was awakened by the sound of the coyotes after them, the first thing I did was wake Jer up (at 5:30) and tell him he needed to immediately go get lumber and wire, today is chicken coop day...lol..
Then I saw all of the rattles from the rattlers killed on the property from the last 20-30 years and I was really ready to leave....back to Washington, back to Whidbey, no poisonous snakes, no coyotes. Sorry to say they do have coyotes now ...and rabbits...because some fool brought the rabbits over to the island, thought they'd be good for hunting or something. It only takes one...sigh...fool, not rabbits, they only take two....
