When grooming him, I have to be very careful because the donkeys love to be groomed too. So the best thing is brush and look up to see how those ears are. If you look in this picture, They are down, when I see that I have to step back and wait for the donkeys to move on cause you don't know when he is going to start kicking.
Well. sometimes he is a social animal. His best friend of the three is the gelding, A.T. Monticello, He doesn't like A.T.'s mom Isabelle very well. But Annabelle sidles in and shares his food sometime, but on the alert ready to go. You dont know when heels will fly!
How cute! Has Charley been around the mules for a long time or is he just getting used to them? I know nothing about farm animals ... just wondering why they wouldn't get along. Charley sure is a beautiful boy, love his red coat. He certainly looks content in that next to last picture ... eyes almost closed he's so relaxed!
Lin, he loves to have his rump scratched, that is his favorite thing. He is really gentle, I can handle him from one end to the other. But he can't stand Spraybottles. So that is bad in insect season. You know what I do? I use Fabric softener sheets, I tie them to his halter and they keep bugs away from his beautiful face. Charley thinks he is the herd leader but really the donkey girls are.
i have pic of him getting his feet trimmed, those will be on here sometime today.
wwhen I got the Two Donkey girls, they were pasture animals. They hadn't been handled that much. But I have them very gentle and Treat ans cookies will work wonders. They are about 101% better than when I first got them. They are sisters. have always been together. Then Isabelle had A.T. when he was 6 mo. old I had him gelded. I have had my donkeys the longes, went thru several mules before I got my Charley. He is a grand fella.
